GTG - 1910-D $10

We don't see a lot of GTG's with $10 Indians so figured since I have a TV of this one I'd toss it out there.

Man that is sharp. I love Indian gold...... I think I see the slightest touch of wear in the curls on the forehead and the forward area of the eagles wing. And I mean just the slightest touch of wear..... I will go AU58

 

Wow, talk about tough. From what I can make out of the image and TV's can hide a lot, it sure looks like a 65 or a really clean 58. I can't tell if that is rub or just discoloration on Liberty's cheek and across the high points on the feathers on the obverse and across the upper left of the eagle's wing and neck on the reverse.

 

It may be an AU58 technically, but PCGS certainly graded it MS62 or higher.

I’ll take the leap and say MS 65

...the MS 60-62 examples that I have seen tend to look way worse (multitude of marks); even many 63-64 examples have more hits...unless the TV is hiding something, I’ll guess it’s a high MS grade

 

Worn under left leg. Weak strike. Cheek pitted. 3 o/clock feathers missing detail. Mid range AU. Wild guess. Not liking right claw. Left leg featers guite worn. This will really effect this grade

 

Beautiful $10 Indian. I too vote for AU58. Congrats on that beautiful coin.

When I saw the TrueView I wondered if it was netted with a little wear like you all are seeing but I saw the luster in other pictures in the listing and bought it anyways because the surfaces are so nice for a 62. I also noticed the top feathers under the neck aren't struck well looking at higher grade 1910-D TVs so that helped me pull the trigger too. So yeah might be a technical 58 but sure looks every bit of 64 in hand with full luster and nice color. I'll probably send to CAC and get JA's opinion. It has a recent cert # and they've been tough recently so maybe it has a chance at a sticker and if not will learn something.

 

Errrm... didn’t they tell you to GTG only AFTER the OP revealed the grade?

 

Market grading: They certainly noticed the wear, but upgraded it to MS because of the great luster. As far as I understand they usually don’t go any higher than MS62 for coins which clearly show wear.

 

This one may be a solid AU58+ candidate which would probably increase it's value a decent amount. If I was someone who played the crack out game (I hate that game) this would be a good one to do it with I think to try and get either a 58+ for the registry hounds or a 64 potentially. Would definitely come back 60 or 61 for me though

 

AU 58 shouldn't be worth more than MS 62.

 

AU58+ usually are because of registry people and the everyman sets.

Also in general the average AU58+ is nicer than the average MS62 so really they should be worth more but people like the higher number of course

 

I don't doubt that it is. What I am saying, the lower graded coin should not be worth more, except in the case of certain proof/ business strike coins.

 

I'm not a registry player so I don't care about that aspect but if the average 58+ is nicer than the average 62 I don't see why the 62 has to be worth more. Of course this is all in a vacuum and comparing the exact coins you're choosing between is obviously what matters. I'm just saying if you said "for the same price you can either have a 58+ or a 62 and you can't see either coin" I'm taking the 58+ every time because on average it's going to be a much nicer coin in every aspect other than a tiny bit of wear (which the 62 may also have itself).
