What do you guys think of this war nickel? It looks similar to some of the lincoln “woodies” I’ve seen. My guess is an improperly mixed alloy but I’m not sure about what’s going on with Jefferson’s neck. Would this be a type of lamination error or a die break? Thanks in advance for all replies.
Silver War Nickels are notorious for laminations and improper metal mixture of the planchet strips. I guess manganese doesn't bond well, or the Mint didn't know how to do it in 1942-1945. These are very common.
