Well found a few more german that I had missed when I purt up the larger part of that collection, hope that you like them :smile Prussia 1867B 1/2 Silver Grochen Value & date King William I Mint Mrk B = Hannover Germany 1897A 5 Pfennig Value & date Imperial Eagle Mint Mrk A = Berlin 1907D 1 Pfennig Value & date Imperial Eagle Mint Mrk D = Munich 10 Pfennig 1925A Value in diamond Crossed stalks of Wheat Mint Mrk A = Berlin
Neither the one nor the other, I'm afraid. Bayreuth (now in Bavaria) made Prussian coins until 1804; Breslau (now Wroclaw, PL) did so until 1825. Your coin however was made in Hannover (now in Lower Saxony). The mint in that city produced Prussian coins between 1866, when the kingdom of Hannover was occupied and annexed by Prussia, and 1878, when the mint was closed ... Christian
Been a while since I last got some German coins (Non Euro) but these arrived this morning :smile 10 DM 1990 Death of Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa Stylized portrait of the Empror Eagle value & date Stuttgart mint = F 1992 Civil Pour le merite Depiction of the order, Alexander von Humboldt wearing it and the date 1842-1992 Eagle value & date Munich mint = D 1995 Heinrich der Löwe (Henry III the Lionheart) Duke of Saxony & Bavaria Stylized lion the date 1129/30 to 1195 and his title Eagle value & date Stuttgart mint = F I had forgot just how nice some of the German coins realy are LOL
That lion does exist. Well, it was taken from the Kaisermantel (Emperor's Cloak) that Heinrich's son Otto IV had. That cloak is in a museum in Braunschweig, NI - here are two (old, grayscale) pictures: (The Cloak) http://www.bildindex.de/bilder/MI04217g03a.jpg (Detail: Lion) http://www.bildindex.de/bilder/MI05033e03a.jpg Now that poor bird on the other side is the German federal eagle which is depicted on all collector coins. However, its style is always adapted to the overall design of an issue. Sometimes the result is fine, sometimes ... ah well. All in all, I like the "Henricus" coin. The Barbarossa piece is nice too. That "Pour le mérite" coin, well, I am not exactly fond of that - too much text. Christian
Thanks for that info Christian I was not sure if it had been taken from a actual object or not. I know what you mean about the text LOL but it still is rather nice
Three more 10Dm for the collection, out of these 3 I have to say that the Tutonic Order has to be my fav 10 DM 1987 30th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome 1957-1987 Chariot pulled by 11 horses Eagle value & date Karlsruhe mint = G 1988 100th Anniversery of the death of Karl Zeiss 1816-1888 Karl Zeiss & microscope Eagle value & date Stuttgart mint = F 1990 800th anniversary of the Teutonic Order 1190-1990 Shield with cross + Madona & child Eagle value & date Hamburg mint = J
Should be twelve, representing the number of member states at that time. As for the Carl Zeiss coin, the GDR also issued a commem on that occasion, but that shows just the microscope. And I agree, Among these three the Deutscher Orden coin is the best one. Now the eagles, ummm ... Christian
Strike out those last two words. That bird ... yes, I know that breast enhancement surgery is not common for eagles, but it seems there are exceptions. It is the flag of the Order, with the "almost 3D" effect and the frosted/polished contrast, that I like. Christian

Ahem. That would be the Berlin bear ... By the way, the Munich Olympics coins all have the year 1972, but not on the eagle side where it can usually be found. In fact, the six issues came out between January 1970 and August 1972. These Olympics pieces were the only 10 DM coins for a long time - before and after that (until 1986) the German commems were 5 DM coins. The first "new" 10 DM coin was the Berlin piece that you showed here. On the same occasion, the GDR issued this piece http://www.honscha.de/bilder/sonstige/2488.jpg by the way. Nice coins! Christian
Quite right just me been a bit lazy and not taking my time LOL did not know about the GDR version must look out for that one  Ps one thing though the Bear over here is quite often called the Baverian bear as a number of wooden items made to represent bears were made in the Black forest region, seen one on a antiques programe the other day a rather nice bear that was designed to hold a cotton reel and had a pin cushion shaped like a basket on its back LOL
