I thought to myself...Well if the other bidders aren't going to put up a big fight for this one I'll have it.....thank you very much. Pontic Kingdomm Mithradates VI, 120-63 BC AV Stater (8.27g) Tomis. Lysimachus Type Ch XF
I'm intrigued by a detail in the picture for this coin. Adorning the crested helmet/headdress for Athena, there is a figure with a long serpentine body and a fishtail, while at the other end it has the upper torso of a human body (arms, head, and trunk) above what appears to be the foreleg of a horse. It's neither hippocampus nor centaur, but I can't recall where it fits. What kind of figure is that, and where does it fit in Athenian mythology?
$829 not a bad price either, i was contemplating to bid on it, but decided not to do it, Congrats Najib!
I got a few odds and ends One was a Nero and Agrippina Minor denarius the other was a tetradrachm of Lysimachos. I really like that "boxers" nose
Wow!! What a wonderful acquisition! Have you seen Kevin Butcher's nice video about the type? In case you or others haven't:
