Point taken. But if a piece looks like the OP coin, I would at least suspect an artificial slant to it, and stay away from it.

And...(drum roll, please) we agree to agree! Seriously, when I first saw the listing I thought artificial, and then I noticed the guy's handle. Not to say a naturally toned Morgan is not beautiful or add extra premium to it.

To some people, the popularity of toned coins PLUS a near-religious belief in capitalism means they'll make all the market wants, all the while batheing in their self-righteousness.

 

I recently posted a half dime in the "Toning Premium" thread that I bought from this seller a few years ago. I love the coin. I will say he accentuates his photos in his listing though. I would buy from this seller again too.

That is true. I was more or less just commenting on the sellers pictures in general that he uses in his listings. When it comes to TrueView's, I also think the are taken to accentuate the toning on the coin.

 

I would agree that TrueViews can accentuate toning and other favorable aspects of coins (e.g., cameo), but I do not think TrueViews "juice" the image (e.g., improperly enhance saturation and contrast).

 

I just need to remind EVERYONE here that PCGS' own Price Guide app prices this coin at $10. For all we know, it was gassed AFTER they saw it.

 

No, that is incorrect. PCGS TrueViewed it with the color obviously. It is possible that it was graded, then gassed, and then sent for reholder and imaging, and that it slipped by PCGS that way.

Oops, you're right. Cert # is off by a digit. Doesn't change my belief it's a gassed coin. Why? I've seen it done, LIVE!

 

I don't disagree. I also tend to think it has been gassed. But it got by PCGS, perhaps through grading, gassing, and reholder with TrueView.

 

I can't speak with confidence about all TrueView photos, but I've seen quite a few that makes me think the photos were juiced. For instance, the neon pink Washie from the OP. Do you think that is how the coin actually looks in hand? My question is not an accusation, just merely asking for your opinion.

 

And what I'm saying is the PCGS' "say so" isn't good enough for me. Q. David Bowers says tons of altered color junk coins are in PCGS slabs.

 

Yes, I agree. Primarily for moderns though. It frustrates me when all these post-65 AT coins get through PCGS when I've had pre-65 toners bounce that I have personally taken out of Dansco albums and submitted.
