You forgot to post the reverse image. Here it is, from HA's archives. ... Here's a similar coin with Chi Rho control mark from my collection: EGYPT. Oh, snap-crappity*! That (and the subsequently posted stuff) is awesome. Y'all are making me jealous. Ain't got one yet. I did browse these some, earlier this year. Ptolemaic coinage is a pool I haven't dipped my toe into yet. But it's on my radar. *"Snap-crappity" is my newly-invented Word of the Month. To be properly pronounced, it must be intoned in the fake accent of an elderly hillbilly. My wife and daughter frown or roll their eyes and seem to hate it. Which is precisely why I keep saying it.
Recently I saw an internet meme titled "exact photo description of a dad joke in action" and immediately thought of you
Nice pick up @Svarog ! I have PIII: TET: Egypt Ptolemy III AE Tet 41mm 7.2mm thick 67.5g Zeus Ammon Eagle HEMIDRACHM: Egypt Ptolemy III 245-222 BC AE 34mm 31g HemiDrachm Zeus-Ammon Eagle Tbolt SV 965 CHALKOUS: Egypt Ptolemy III 245-222 BC AE 12mm 2.0g Chalkous Zeus-Ammon Eagle Tbolt SV 840 Righetti Col
Nice catch @Svarog ! I have to admit (shamefully) that I don't have any Ptolemaic bronzes yet. I'm still looking, though.
Nice coins all. Here's an opportunity to post my most recent purchase (again). JA says it is Ptolemy IV. PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Æ Drachm, 222-205/4 BC. 41mm, 66 grams Ptolemy IV Philopater, Alexandria mint, Series 5. Obv.: Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right. Rev.: ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ; Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; ΛI between legs. Reference: Svoronos 1126; Weiser 51 (Ptolemy II)
Lovely coin. These Ptolemaic bronzes have so much character. Here's my one and only Ptolemaic coin, an AE38 of Ptolemy III. Svoronos 974. Seller's photo.
As always resourceful @TIF - you are pretty good at tracking where, what and for how much was sold, who bought it- LOVE IT!! The coin I posted was sold in September on Heritage's platform for 1.5K + taxes and shipping cost, luckily I was able to snatch it at a good price
Thanks @Sallent. Noooooooo way I am taking this out of plastic, no matter how much you or I want this...and you know why
With slabbed coins it isn't difficult-- just check Heritage's archives. They're one of the few ancient coin companies who are on the slab bandwagon. Glad you got it at a better price!
Not only with Slabs, you are good at tracking pretty much most of the coins, where your interests are.... - I like this resourcefulness and your investigative spirit. - great that most of our interests dont overlap
