I've had this one in my Collection for a while and never knew if this is in fact an error or damage. The extra copper is aged as much as the coin but it is an old coin so i'm stumped. Any help is much appreciated!
Hey Fred, thank you for the quick response. Good to know, i'm curious what they used to make this occur. due to the Patina it was done a long time ago.
It does catch the eye, and the coin is still intact. i will hang onto it as a conversation piece now that i know more about how it was damaged. unfortunately i don't think there is any premiums for damage lol
I originally thought this could have been a foreign Object on the reverse of the die due to his beard and other details being intact on the obverse.
