Hi and Welcome to the forum!

This is a fantasy coin intended to fool some people. Probably silver or gold colored. The indian head design similar to the indian cent of 1859 -1909 was not yet in use and I doubt had been even designed. The font is wrong for the time, "United States of America" only appears on one side of a real coin, rough features and texture, all scream non-mint. If you google "1851 dollar indian cent design" other photos and other forums have seen these occasionally, and come to the same conclusion. It is not a "trial" or "pattern" piece. It is a "fun" coin ;)

I have 7 of these type coins mine has a weight of 27.7 G, 44mm in diameter , and is magnetic. I was told they were given away or sold at Las Vegas casinos in the years when the slot machines took silver dollars that is why they are much larger than silver dollars. I have several varieties of actual U.S. mint coins a 1921 Peace & Morgan , an 1879 Trade Dollar, a 1795 Draped Bust Dollar, and an 1878 & 1872 Seated Liberty Dollars. If they were not so oversized you would swear they were real. I know this is an old thread but pleas feel free to place the history of these coins. The 1851 Indian Head one is the only non authentic copy I have.

This is a modern fantasy item with no numismatic value at all, except perhaps a dollar or two value as a novelty piece.

Edit- I was responding to the OP, not realizing this was an old thread.

@imperial-coin - I would suggest posting your items in their own thread, with pictures.

The Las Vegas connection is interesting.

in my book it would be considered afun money token and a need one at that. there are alot of token collector's out there that would love to have it so its not worthless it just depends what someone would pay.

Naresh, I edited out your phone # , as not allowed. When you get 10 posts, you can use the PM ( coversation as called here).

A large photo of the coin will be needed to even verify if it is real as counterfeits are a large proportion due to the value of a true coin. Thanks Jim

  13. I have a recent coin I bought from china and it is not magnetic and a real neat fun coin. Mine has a lot of detail on the face of the Indian as well as the ribbon has an L on it just like the 1864 Indian head penny, mine cost me $3.00, on an E bay buy it now auction. It is a lot of fun to show at Pow Wow's as long as you are honest about the coin.

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of these fantasy coins out there, do you have a question about it?

If you guys took the time to read the thread, you wouldn’t need to ask about an 1851 indian head dollar... They don’t exist. It’s a fake coin. It was not made by the U.S. mint and it is not an official dollar coin.

It’s not worth anything in the eyes of a numismatist.

Most of them have English as a second language it appears, or our educational system is really that bad.
