I think you are ok there, Jack.
It looks like your graded 09' had a slight hit on the right side of the date.
Look at the left side of the last 9.
It looks like something hit it from the bottom-left.
The zero looks a little flat as well.
I'm wondering if the mintmark didn't catch a little of that, flattening it out a little.
That could be the difference you're seeing, as it's tail appears to trumpet out a bit.

Just a guess based on the pictures at hand, so nobody come at me with the torches and pitch-forks.
    :D

I think your new 09' looks great, Jack.
I think you broke the 8th commandment though.

Well, I got out the 20X loupe and the Lange and Wexler
Lincoln books, and my PCGS counterfeit book. I am convinced it might be real, lol. No, actually, it looks like the mm on die #2 is same shape as this one, it's just a bit of dirt on mine that prevents me to get "under" it with a loupe.

Coin is going to ICG Monday because I have a coupon for free key date, I have another raw 14-D to go along with it. ICG will also promise turnaround time within sellers return policy timeframe.

It is just to freaky to think I actually paid $55 for the coin, unreal.

I am not the Lincoln expert but the one thing that makes me wonder about your new one is the mintmark is noticeably further to the left.

Those hammers were really heavy for the 8 year old orphans, forced into labor at the mint.
So, you'll have to cut them a little slack on the placement.

There are 4 different obverse's for the SVBD, a total of 9 for the 09-S. Unfortunatly for me, all my research material tells mm placement is not a marker, only shape.

    ICG has ruled !!!!!
    1909-S is bodybag fake !!!!!!

While not back yet, I spoke to Paul this morning, added S for sure. Note, the seller will refund 100% of my cost, great guy, suprised to hear it as well. This was a very deceptive one, I have seen much worse. It was close enough I decided to have a pro look, and well, it's fake.

See.....The saying says, if it looks to good to be true........

    Jack,

If you are referring to Die #2 as in RPM #2, I don't think the coin is a "S Over Horizontal S" Variety as the Mintmark is too far to the East! I have owned quite a few of the RPM #1's and RPM #2's and am pretty sure that the coins is neither! Other than the Mintmark being so far to the East on the first 1909-S which is to be expected at times and varies from one Die to the next that were used, I don't see anything wrong with either coin!

I'm no expert, but the coin on the right's mintmark doesn't look right to me.

Oh wow, just read the thread.

Good think I guessed right. lol

Coin on the right was won for $50 something.... my " Ebay Gamble" thread. The coin on the right is the added S, just next to one of my " real 09-S's" for comparison.

I have to say it had me guessing, it was a high skill fake, not an easy one.

Huntsman, I have several of the Rpm #2, 2 slabbed 1 raw

    Jack,

Glad you're getting your money back in full but gotta wonder why in the hell I thought it might be fake (other than placement) when I really DON'T study these at all.

Saw a thread yesterday in which someone let's his wife determine eye appeal although she does not collect.

Kind of makes sense if you think about it. Consult someone that is ignorant on the subject. Hey, the government does it all the time!

Those darn two words again. :desk:

Seriously, I'm sorry to read this. Do you have any recourse with the seller?
