I picked this one up in @John Anthony 's sale of two weeks ago, it is an As of Augustus. This brings my total 12 Caesars' coins to 3, so I have nine more to go. Nice one @ancient coin hunter ! Hey, I never thought about it, but I have an As of Augustus - one of the 12 Caesars... I got this one from @Valentinian ... really cool as I understand this may be a retarrifed coin later in the Empire so that the Legions could have pocket change. From Harl, "Coinage in the Roman Economy" RI Augustus with four countermarks 25-23mm 9.84 g TICA Head AVG dolphin in rect Said to be From the Balkans I think @chrsmat71 has the same TICA AUG and Dolphin slams as mine...
It took me more than twice that amount of time, and even more for my MA Legionary set which I've been working on for almost 40 years (off and on of course).
Nice acquisition Here's my Salvius Otho version of it Augustus, As, 7 BC CAESAR AVGVST PONT MAX TRBUNIC POT, Bare head of Augustus left M SALVIVS OTHO III VIR AAA FF, around SC 11.18 gr Ref : RCV # 1685 var, Cohen # 516 Q
a lifetime as: a divus struck under Titus and a Dupondius Divus struck under Tiberius ,who made it into my 12 Caesar set which took me about 3 years to complete in bronze.
My humble Augustus offerings.. Antioch..26.8 mm, 15.65 grams and a smaller example: Philippi, Macedonia 15mm, 3.16 grams
i've been collecting over 14 years, but i didn't start "trying" to get'em all(12) until about 2 years ago in silver, but that went south purdy quick.. i'm still short Otho and Julius coins just for generic (silver AND non silver) 12.. but i'm not really too worried or pursuing them at the moment...or @ least i wasn't unless this puts that coinbug in my head..again
Nice one from Augustus's moneyers' series, @ancient coin hunter. AUGUSTUS AE As. 10.88g, 30mm. Rome mint, AD 11-12. RIC 471. O: IMP CAESAR DIVI F AVGVSTVS IMP XX, bare head of Augustus left. R: PONTIF MAXIM TRIBVN POT XXXIIII around large S C.
..i'm lacking 4 for 12 in silver, but they're the toughest ones being Julius, Caligula, Claudius and Otho, what i will now call Jcco. getting that 12 will be a lifetime achievement for me. just getting the two will be a great achievement
