LOL, LordM-- As a new moderator did you give yourself the Best Answer nod on this one? I'm confused, because the quoted passage is from another thread, and the quoted passage was posted at a later time than highlighted "best answer".
Whaaa? No! LOL In fact, that's not only my first "Best Answer", but the first time I've even seen that feature used! Looks trippy, with that green highlighting and all...
It's funny. The best answer often goes to people who don't actually answer the OPs question. I recently received one and I have to admit, my post had nothing to do with the OPs question. but I'll take it...
So, how does this "best answer" thing happen? I've only seen it deployed on the Ancients board once or twice. I never even noticed the "best answer" link beneath posts. Does a certain number of user clicks trigger the label? I kinda hope the "Best Answer" thing doesn't catch on here on the Ancients board.
when enough people click best answer, it triggers it... I guess I'm not privy to the inner workings, but that would make the most sense, especially given that the posts can be unrelated
I have often wondered that myself. Even with my Mighty, Omniscient, Herculean, Olympian tiny, inexperienced, and incomplete new mod powers, I am every bit as clueless.
You can do that yourself. (LordM rummages inside his hat) Aha! Here, take this magic lamp. Rub the lamp briskly and intone the name of the genie @GDJMSP, and it he will likely appear in a flash of flame and puff of purple smoke. Be prepared to grovel, though, so as not to invoke its his wrath.
No need, I went to the Support forum and browsed. A few things came to light: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/no-best-answer-in-ancients.277562/#post-2400791 The "best answer" link is new for the Ancients board. Also, it seems that it only takes one person clicking that link to turn it green? And, to make it worse, it bumps that unvetted "best answer" post to the top, just underneath the OP. That's one of the reasons I was baffled when your "It is a totally understandable urge." was moved to underneath the OP-- the comment wasn't addressing anything in the OP. Not sure this Best Answer gimmick is a good thing given how we meander through a range of topics and questions in most threads. I hope deploying it doesn't become a joke...
It's also VERY close to that thar "Like" button and I've panicked more than once thinking I've accidentally pressed it with my fat thumb on my phone ...
