There’s no risk buying from eBay. There’s so many levels of buyer protection it’s really rather absurd at this point. It’s also going to be your best source in that price range.
Not sure about Lincolns but I picked up a run of PCGS Jefferson Proofs (69) for $5.99 each awhile back. Shipped free.
Not real sure why this thread seems so sideways...... Any coin purchase/deal is entirely driven by the passion of the purchaser. Personally, I have an aversion to high grade common coins. I would not buy the cent. But then, I am not assembling a graded Lincoln set either.... As for Apmex, they are the only place I will make my bullion purchases. I think highly of them as a selller. I believe they represent their product as accurately as is possible. It’s up to you to determine if that purchase is a value to you. I personally feel this whole hobby infatuation with high grade common coins days are numbered. Thus I believe this would not be a good value purchase in the long run.
I'm not sure there has ever been a period when there weren't collectors interested in the highest grade possible
Agreed. And I love a solid struck uncirculated example as much as anyone here. Just have a hard time swallowing this whole religion that exists around the TPG’s in recent years..... I pumped gas back in the 1970’s at around .30 cents a gallon. It was a statement of pride to drive the biggest boat of an automobile you could get in those days. Gas doubled, then tripled.. Shortly thereafter all those boats went to scrap. The TPG’s do have a place in this hobby. But the pride points that are prevalent among us ordinary collectors cannot be supported forever. And then it will be seen for what it is. Entirely a personal perspective. Don’t attack me please.
They've been around for over 30 years that ship has sailed, they aren't going away and it hasn't really been that recent. They've done nothing but grow and expand around the world and become more and more important as the internet has become a huge part of the commerce.
For a submitter of their size a 66 is definitely profitable. More importantly most dates it's just more practical than spending the man hours for an all 67 one.
If you are doing a grading set then picking out the exact coin for your set should be an important factor. You should be aiming for a properly graded example to fit your grading set and buying one blind isn't a great way to do that.
Absurd to pay for something and not be allowed to choose the coin you want. Even the 1940 pictured is common. OK it's a high grade, but let's say you walk onto a lot and are buying a car. We take your money and then we choose what car you get. They just have too many things their own way. Buy a coin that you want from EBay, prob cost less and be just as nice.
