Coin show today in Marlboro, Massachusetts. My Wife came with me and bought a few Civil War tokens. I bought a couple small ancient coins and this for my Dansco7070:
I saw some crazy (imo) low prices on these at the show today. Actually, I couldn't believe some of the prices I saw on just about everything. Dealers were looking to seriously move inventory, I guess, and I hope they did!
Wish I’d been there. Ever since I started putting together this set, I’ve really stolen several at auctions. This one came at a nice price from Heritage’s stock. Never bought that way from them before.
I’m too busy right now to set up there or have gone though I’d have liked to . I found at Manchester nh last month stuff that was quality sold and stuff that was cheap sold. But problem coins at retail prices were not moving at all. I didn’t see much of any gold I really wanted to own except for one better date 2 1/2. Liberty. I also only bought one higher end early type coin there was very little decent in the bust and seated types that were better dates or grades - xf and better and everyone was looking for them. I’m seeing a big market separation between high end quality and lower end common and or problem coins. Anything with a cac sticker moves. As do toners and coins with good eye appeal
had this in my watch list. Coin looks amazing. Can't wait to see the in hand pics. Never know what you're going to get from GSC.
I just acquired this. I spotted it in the under $50 thread when the seller posted it. I can't. But I did track him down and add my first middle date to my set after selling most of my collection off a few years back. I know there are a couple of scratches on the reverse, but I love the boldness around the obverse rim breaks.
They certainly are,and yes even with the clash you over paid for the 1860 h-10 very cool coin thought.
I found this coin quite curious. The [DIME] clash marks are incused...and show in the incused designs on the Obverse. The higher surrounding fields needed to press into the opposing die very strongly to make the incused designs to appear. The clash marks were "nearly" all polished off in the Obverse fields, but not in the incused designs. Additionally, if the clash marks were polished off in the reverse fields (as on the Obverse), why are there no clash marks in the incused designs on the Reverse...as on the Obverse? Perhaps I'm just showing my ignorance about clash marks...but I wanted to see the coin more closely so I can understand what's going on. It's a riddle wrapped in an enigma!
Here's another one I bought from GSC tonight...I hope the color is natural. It looks like a pretty nice strike...even it the rust pits give Lady Liberty a bad case of acne.
Not too terribly new, but this is my pocket piece. I find it Sparks an interest in conversation when I'm out.
This is my attempt to show the coin in it's best light and develop a standard for image storage. Any comments on the presentation, photography and/or the grade evaluation would be appreciated. I've been learning about numismatics for 50 years and don't plan on stopping now.
