1948 wheat penny. What happened to this coin?

    It's called a Lamination (delaminated) Mint Error.. Common occurrence on the Wheat Cents

    Nice find! It is a good example of a lamination error.
    From the wear on the coin it looks like it is also well circulated.

    Curious as to the weight. Struck after the lamination at least partly because you can see the detail on the lower parts

    i took another picture of the penny on the scale. Never saw the "2" in the wheat stock. Good catch. thumbnail-5.jpg
