I picked up this in a bunch from an auction - I can see Soldino on the reverse, and the winged lion on the obverse, which suggests Venice, but beyond that I cannot find in Krause. Can someone help? Weighs about 2.1g and measures about 20mm diameter. Thanks,
ca. 1611 Italian States Venice Crete 4 Tornesi. is what I got looking at Ebay auctions. I too could not find it in my world catalogs.
Italy, Venice, Candia (Crete), Soldino or 4 tornesi, Lion of St Marc facing, holding Gospel, flanked by rosette, T4 below / SOLDINO, five pointed star above, rosette with star on either side below. Btw, nice coin!
Thanks all for the answers! I will probably end up selling it as it does not fit in my collection - any ideas what value to put on it?
That's great - thanks. For some reason I never think of looking there. (My inbuilt resistance to grading and encapsulating coins I think.)
Same here, but it's actually become my go-to reference source. It's quick to access and has pretty accurate results if you know what you're looking for. If you don't... That's another story.
