Hi, I found this coin on a roadside some 7-8 years ago in Watford UK. I, then kept it somewhere and over the time completely forgot about it. Yesterday I was searching some stuff and found it. I was amazed to see that Its shining wasnt faded a bit. I showed it to a friend who is convinced that its made of gold. Kindly guide me whats coin is this or is it really worth anything?
George the 5th, paired with a 1750 date on the other side tells me it's fake. George the 5th reigned from 1910 to 1936.
It is not genuine, it may be gold plated. George V was king in the early 1900s, not 1750, and the George and Dragon design was adopted in 1820 or so. It may have been used a gambling token or chip.
This looks extremely similar to a Greek "vasilopita flouri" token. These are associated with a special cake or pie on New Year's. The difference is this one has legends in English rather than Greek. Might still be the same thing, but it is most definitely not solid gold.
Hmm, a common theme... New member: "Is this coin I found the equivalent of winning the lottery?" Member response: no New member response: "crickets"
I'll take these types of threads all day over this kind; New Member: "Is this coin I found the equivalent of winning the lottery?" Member response: no New member response: Yes it is! I saw it on youtube, so it must be! Member responses: No. No. No. No. New Member response: Yes it is. Here are more blurry photos from across the street. You must be blind if you can't see this is real. Member response: No. No. No. ad infinitum.....
