My family came over from Germany so it's a history thing for me. I have a nice collection of Third Reich coins. Great way to get copper and silver and also retain value as a collector's item. Of course good wayto get Zinc, aluminum, and steel also! HAH! :D

'37 A is one of the rarer dates, correct? Looks pretty nice, if ya ask me. I only have a silver 2 mark coin (1939 I think), but I'd like to have a few more.

Arizona Jack, not TempeAZ but Boone, NC... as in Appalachian State that beat Michigan!!! :) I get that a lot from the SUndevil people! Good team though.
As far as these coins go, I bought a whole lot/album of different Third Reich coins from a guy at a coin show. I happened to see them in his briefcase and asked what they were. He showed the album to me and made me an offer on them. The 2 marks (60 some %) and 5 Marks (90some %) had a nice amount of silver in them so I took the offer. I'm glad I did. There are several "key" dates in the album and all the coins are in great shape.

Quaviet I am hoping that was a "funny" remark on your part because I would NEVER have a hoded clansman in my home (even if it was meant to be funny it was ignorant). First off the Third Reich has NOTHING to do with the KKK, secondly I don't support the Third Reich. My family came over from Germany and that’s about as close to supporting them as I get....(What Hitler did was horrible and he eventually paid for it with his life. I in no way support his cause or what he did). I collect coins and pieces of history, guess what, this is a piece of history. People collect all sorts of coins that have "evil" figures from the past on them, in fact I saw a guy with some Iraqi money (Had Sadam Hussein's pic on it) at the coin show the other day, I guess he was a terrorist. Blanketed STUPID comments, such as yours, have no place in my threads. If you don't realize how many people collect these start asking around at your next coin show and you will find out how popular they are. I don't want to start a flame war here on the forums but at the same time I don't want to be labeled a racist or hate person by anyone. I took your comment to be one that was labeling me a racist of some type. If it wasn't meant to be this then I would ask that you edit your remark so that it doesn't have the connotation of calling me racist.... Thanks.

I agree. I have Third Reich coins and paper money, Saddam-era paper money, Japanese invasion currency, and Confederate money, in my collection. I do not support slavery, exterminating Jews, torturing and murdering Iraqis, or the abuse and murder of POW's. I take great offence to anyone who makes such insinuations about anyone else, without any proof.
All of these items represent significant periods in our history, and that is one of the reasons that I collect them.

I was only kidding and only trying to point out how the negative coins can screw up the forum. If there was a Ho Chi Minh coin I woud say the same. No holds barred.

    Maybe I missed something

"Negative coins can screw up the forums..." Please explain this to me because I'm not sure that I follow you. It seems that you are saying that ANY coin that has a negative connotation to it, either by virtue of it's era in time or portrait on it, shouldn't be collected and appreciated as a collectible on this forum, or any forum for that matter... Is that what you are saying? If so that is a VERY narrow minded approach to coin collecting. I understand that there are times in history that people are very sensitive about but I posted nothing about that. I simply put a hard to find coin, in excellent shape, up in the forums for those that collect them to enjoy. I don't come to your post and flame the coins you have. We all have different taste in collectibles but that doesn't mean we all can't coexist on the forums. Thanks.

Nice coin ASUtodd!! I also have a few Third Riech coins in my collection and plan on putting together the entire series. I am a history buff and enjoy collecting coins partly because of the history behind them regardless of what country they're from.

That is certainly true for the USA. Most collectors over here in Germany just collect them as part of a broader "German history" collection. I have a few coins from the HRE countries (actually very few, e.g. from Jülich-Kleve-Berg which were minted where I live), several from the "Wilhelminic" Empire 1871-1918, from the Weimar Republic 1918-33, from the Nazi Reich 1933-45, from the post-war occupation, and from my country (Federal Republic of Germany). This being focused on nazi coinage when it comes to German pieces seems to be somewhat US specific. But what others collect is their business ...

i second chrisild.. what others collect is up to them. I certainly dont like some of the events that have happened in the world, but i cant hold that against the coins or currency!

any officially released coin or note, is certainly a possible suspect for me.

    Question for chrisild

Is it illegal for Germans to have anything with the Swastika on it? I keep seeing where people can't ship swastika items to certain countries and I also have heard about several movies that Germany will not allow to be shot in their country because of the nazi imagery in the movie. I wasn't sure if people in that country could collect these items or not. In my own mind I have assumed that this is why there are a lot of Third Reich items here in the United States.
