I was just sitting here thinking about this and decided to post it as a question to all of you in here. Do you normally go to coin shows by yourself or with a collecting buddy? If you had a choice to take one person from this forum along with you to a coin show, who would it be and why? Its your option to pick someone either because they're great at cherrypicking or maybe you just think they'd be fun to spend the day with or maybe you're low on gas and figure they'd chip in and get you to the show regardless. I'm anxious to see some of your answers.
i dont have any answers but i am on the lookout for coin show buddy in the chicago nw suburbs area. so if this works i am game
I'd take bonedigger or RickyB with me. We could hang out, check out the coins, and swap military stories. Given the chance I'd hang out with any prior mil or current mil individuals.
I attend shows alone but I did meet Gopher29 at the last one. That was cool. Also saw another CT member who has YET TO COME OUT OF THE CLOSET and post. Hope you see this! clembo I'll get back on the ones I think I'd have fun with. Have "met" a lot interesting people here.
I prefer someone who knows and likes coins so I don't feel pressured to rush because they're bored and waiting. If they're loaded & want to pay for my gas and coins too, all the better.
I like to take someone along who has an interest in coins, but is not experienced. I enjoy teaching people things at shows, as one can learn a lot by walking the floor of a show.
When it gets close to March and the ANA show, I'll put up a thread and see how many of us will be there, if it's not too many, Dinner is on me that day. There is a Fridays in Chase Field, where the Diamondbacks play. It is open to the park in upper left field, a great place to eat and shoot the breeze.
Might have to drive down from Denver for the ANA gathering. I usually go by myself, though I've been trying to get a friend I know to come along, as he dabbles in collecting ancients, and I need to drag my dad along one day, as I usually go to any gem and mineral shows with him as that's his hobby.
NO question. Elaine1970. I don't understand most of his/her posts, but they are always popular and a lot of other people respond to them. I'd love to spend an afternoon with him/her at a coin show. I think I could learn a lot.
Funny you would bring this up now. I was at work on Monday when I mentioned that I had gone to the local coin show over the weekend. A guy I've been working with for years perked up...seems he's been collecting for years which I never knew. Anyway I mentioned that it would be nice to go to a show with someone experienced and he has agreed to go with me. As far as going to shows with folks from here. I am always up for meeting new people.
I usually go with my wife. She is a great sport about it and has never complained even though coin collecting isn't her thing. Frankly, I value her opinion of eye appeal quite a bit. Often times, I have found that with her untrained eye, she can simply tell me whether or not a coin just looks good. From the forum, I would take Cave Troll or GDJMSP. Both of these guys are extremely knowledgeable and would be a great asset to learn more from. Also, Cave Troll is just a great guy to hang out with. I'm not sure about GD as we haven't hung out before, but I imagine he's a great guy too!
I live in SoCal. Unfortunately, the LA area is too far to drive to attend a coin show. I usually go to shows in the Vegas area because I have a friend who is also a collector who lives there, and it's only an hour drive. Sometimes I'll go to shows in Phoenix as well, depending on whether it happens to coincide with when my wife is there on business. The Phoenix shows I have to attend alone, as my wife gets bored at just the thought of a coin show. Guy~
