attribution help on this 1798 large eagle bust dollar

    im not sure Doug lol, "stunning", "astonishing" ... several more come to mind.. but you get the point :)

    Honestly though ... and call me silly .. but, i kinda like the US dollar better. maybe is just because i can see the details so much better ... dunno... but that gold coins is pretty dang cool! gotta luv that date too :thumb:

    lol, i can see your very proud about that coin!! and should be.. it is lovely.

    btw .. was that coin hammered? or how was it made? i can see indentations around the knight, just makes it look like it was hammer made.

    that is a cool coin! thanks for sharing (apparently... again :D)

    Yes it was hammered. It wasn't my intent to highjack the thread, just make a point. That being that just because coins are old, that doesn't mean they have to be worn and beat up. There are plenty of MS coins from the beginnings of US coinage. But they were still hammering coins for another 300 years after they made that coin. And milled coinage began over 100 years before the US existed.

    It looks like the knight is riding the horse backwards and looking forward.. and a monkey on his cape.Am I imagining things?

    I had the chance to buy one of those, it was only in VG-F condition though... but it was a good price (didnt have the $ at the time).
