1968 s penny. Idk but this penny just stuck out can anybody tell me what I found

That's because it is in an AU condition, to bad for the verdigris on the reverse.

 

Verdigris? Is that the spot on the reverse? That’s what it is called? Is there any doubling I thought it looked like there is.

 

Yea I found it in a sack of change my wife brought home from her parents.

I remember my first 68 it had to be the prettiest coin I ever found, then I saw all that doubling wow hit the jack pot.
Nope it was MD I saved it just to remind me but it does appear that the 68 always seems to be in nice condition. Imo

I know it just popped out immediately and I said his is to nice I’m going to keep it. It’s good all except that spot on the reverse. Does it have boubling? I still can tell when a coin does. The light reflecting off of them throws me off.

 

I have had the same thing happen with the light reflection on these AU 1968 cent. It can give off what I call reflective doubling, They seem to have a high relief to them. I think that is what makes them "POP"when you see them. The dies for the 1969 cent where re-engraved to bring the designs away from the egdes of the coin which make them look quite different.

As for any Doubling, I think you will have to look into the macro details of your coin. here is a link that may help in your study.

yea I think every coin is doubled right now lol thank you I will look into it and let you know what I figure out.

 

The big spot on the reverse is most likely a stain.
The other two to three spots , look like verdigris.

68 was the last year the 1916 master hub was used, and it had gotten quite worn out by that time. Really should have been reworked a few times by then or at the very least in the mid 40s.
