One of things that amuses me with Rick is that he has always said, "buy the coin, not the holder", and then all of a sudden he an "exclusive" NGC label with a four section picture of Ronald Regan and the label signed by someone who has probably signed more labels than anyone in the world, John Mercanti. He then announced he had 150 of them at the special price of $198, which was $50 more than the other TV shows were charging for the same coin. Was the extra $50 for the label? I got the coin at one of the local coin shows for $89. I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you are willing to pay 20%, and I think your mark-up is lower than he adds on, for "his knowledge and experience". You're buying a coin and as with anything else you would buy, you would, as a prudent shopper, look for the best price.

Since he's selling slabbed coins you can easily look at similar ones being auctioned at places like Great Collections, Heritage, David Lawrence,... My guess is you'd save money this way. Of course you may have to wait for a particular coin to come up for auction. To each his own though. If you enjoy watching and buying from him then all I can say is, it's your money.

Yeah... too "esoteric" for we mere mortals, but so easily understood by someone who has already admitted to being a complete novice in the very area he's now preaching about. Brilliant.

No, you haven't been "burnt more on lower price places", sir, but by your own ignorance, just as I have. No one placed a gun to your head forcing you to deal with them, so try placing blame where blame is due before using it as a crutch to promote what may be best for you, but doesn't hold true for everyone.

You see, what you're promoting is every bit as ignorant as the folks you condemn who focus only on price. They care only about that almighty deal while you blindly place faith in a name, and seem willing to pay up for the privilege of getting screwed. See the problem? If you want to pay up to buy from Tomaska TV, fine, but the chances of ever recouping anywhere close to what you paid is going to be slim to none, and even that's only after a serious jump in prices. Some folks don't mind overpaying, I get it, but this doesn't mean it's the path for everyone and is something you seemingly fail to understand.

I guess we will try this one more time. The MAXIMUM exposure, I have said the Rick benefits are worth to me are 20%.......You remind me of people who gladly spend $5.00 more on gas to run across town and save 4.99 to use a coupon. As the expression goes, some people knew the price of everything and the value of nothing" You can shop your way I am happy to support Rick and other similar situations for value I see in his services. I do not understand why that bothers you so much. But I am kind of enjoying that it does.

Glad I stayed out of this conversation. Rick thanks you for your business, I’m sure.

I have repeatedly made clear the fact that I couldn't care less what YOU do, but what I have taken issue with is the fact that you have come here for no other purpose than to press others to follow the lead of an admitted novice. Is this really beyond your ability to comprehend, or do I need to pull out the crayons?

Perhaps you've forgotten about the below...

"For me, if I see coins on RCTV and they are priced within 15-20% of elsewhere, adding it all up and no hassle friendly servicetoo, I see this as a bargain. And many of you should too."

Perhaps the man should add you to the payroll.

You know, I have recently started to use Facebook. I was quick to learn that there are people called "Trolls" who jump into conversations just to stir things up. I may be wrong, but Rickey's logic is so scewed, he may just be a Troll who gets his kicks getting people trying to explain things to him that he really doesn't care about. I just gave an example of how I purchased the same coin Rick was charging $199 for $89 dollars at a local coin dealer and he completely ignored that and talked about spending $5 on gas to save $4.99 on a coin price.

If you are truly sincere, then go ahead and buy all you want from Rick, the members here were just trying to help you and explain that ALL TV Shows are overpriced, partly because of their overhead and partly playing on the lack of knowledge of people who buy from them. There's a saying in coin collecting, "buy what you like", I guess we can add to that, "buy from whom you like."

I see......me thinking many SHOULD see a price within 15-20% as a bargain is very offensive to YOU.
The review on this web site showed the RCTV service as A. It showed his knowledge is extensive. I think that lets RCTV fall within 15-20% of others who may charge a cheaper price. And you are so sensitive and offended. You need to be more tolerant of others who may find value in things you do not. Meantime, the word SHOULD means should, not MUST.

In what universe is a bargain defined as paying an extra 15-20%?

I always wondered how these TV sellers can stay in business by selling coins above market value (one could argue what market value is; seems like there are two markets in this thread). Now I know.

Hey gang! We’re insensitive and intolerant. I’ll let Mickey borrow my cell phone and call someone who might care what he thinks.

Bargain is your word not mine. I never said "Bargain", I said "worth it to me" The amount of irrationality here is remarkable. The commentors would make horribly irrational jurors. Re read my post. I have said what is worth value to me, and no comment here seems to understand. Cause to all of the commentators so for the view and only view is ONCE the desired coin to buy has been established, just go to lowest conceivable cost. Ignore any other factors. Service and knowledge and expertise is of value to me. And of 0 value to others. So you all can sleep at a Red Roof and I will enjoy a Marriot. They both have beds

You literally used the word bargain which I had quoted specifically......

It's of value to everyone, you get the same level of service from pretty much any eBay seller as you do ordering over the phone from TV

I stand corrected. Still, a place that offers A rated service and superior product knowledge, in this case, I consider a bargain over low price places without such services. Especially for people like me who have not navigated the unchartered waters of coin collecting. Maybe you all know exactly the coin you want and exactly whom is safe, reliable and reputable to buy from. I do not. So my comments were specifically to a review I read on this site about RCTV. The reviewer sited Service as A and product knowledge very highly, that adds value for me. I am an expert in High end Audio. If somone asked me where to shop cause they are not an expert and want great service and knowledge and return rights my answer would be a place more expensive for the same gear than if someone said where can I get stuff at lowest cost with no return privileges and no real service.......they would likely vary by 15-20%. The market for any good or service reflects multiple factors. That is why in most any market their is 1and only 1 lowest price provider and then every one else.

And if it was only 15-20%! In most cases his premiums are 100%+!

Tomaska has bought from me before via ebay. If he lists the coin for 3x my price is that a bargain? Is he providing better service by reselling the same item that I had available for 1/3 of the price?

Basically I'm telling everyone to buy from me since my prices are lower and even someone as knowledgeable as Tomaska has bought from me! :hilarious::p:D

What service exactly do you think is being offered that differs from eBay aside from payment plans?

A lot of those specialists source inventory from eBay that they know they can get a better price for it because of their rep.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

This is why your opinion is worthless.

My opinion? Buy one of Rick's books and pay him for his expertise ONCE. I did - his book on Cameo Proofs of 1950-1970. He even autographed it for me. Buy COINS from him and you pay time, after time, after time, after time...

By the way, I do not agree that the "Ricky premium" is 15-20%. It's more like 100-200% compared to my options for similar material.

Is it "more work"? If you love doing it, it's not work at all.
