1996 cent unplated

    image.jpg image.jpg I found what I think is a plating Error. Could also be pmd but I’m hoping for the best.

    I can't say for sure if its real or not. If it is congrats, I once found an unplated 1987 quarter in my pocket change.

    It looks alot like a cent that i have put under a cigarette lighter using needle nose pliers. It burns the copper away. It is easy to control then just wipe the carbon off with acetone. My opinion PMD.

    Not an error. I find them quite often like that in my CRH'ing.

    Quarters are not plated. They have a Clad Layer with a Copper core. You probably just have a Quarter with Environmental Damage that affected the Clad.

    The error is "officially" known as a missing clad layer, where the nickel above the copper of a clad planchet is missing.
