There is no such thing. It's either European Community (EC, one of the three "pillars" of the EU) or simply European Union. Yes, the older coins show the old, pre-2004 EU. Newer ones (2007-) basically have a map of Europe. You may also be interested in the Austrian 50 schilling series (1996-2001, bi-met). France even had some tri-metallic pieces (three, I think). All those were "actual" coins, ie. circulation pieces or circulating commems issued at face value ... Christian
The EEC became the EC, and part of the EU, about 15 years ago. But I will be nice tonight and refrain from posting nasty comments about Britain vs Europe. Anyway, the quad-metal piece that Ricky mentioned looks nice but seems to be on the pricy side http://www.pobjoy.com/ukworld/section.php/451/0 ... About £600, hmmm. (Besides - "the Spanish Ryal"? I thought those were English/Scottish; the Spanish piece would be a Real methinks ...) Christian
Steve, you have done a wonderful job of listing your coins and currency. It's simply spectacular. Well Done...

No problem. I got handfuls of them as I travel there frequently. My interest in coins caught the attention of a family friend on one of my previous trips and they gave me about 5 pounds of what they considered to be useless change (due to inflation). My son and I had a fun time sorting them out. Where about 2000 pesos equals 1 Dollar, we found coins denominated as little as 1 Centavo (100 centavos equals 1 Peso).
It's in the description of that Pobjoy V.I. quad-metallic piece: "The value of the coin is a royal, which is the English spelling of the Spanish Ryal. This historic Spanish coin used to be cut into four to break it down into smaller change. It’s from these Ryal quarters that the famous US Quarter got its name." Oh well, never mind - a nice looking "coin" but quite expensive and definitely not made for circulation anyway ... (Hmm, "spamish" - not quite what I wrote but very appropriate in this case, hehe.) If you are interested in a Hungarian 100 forint coin (1998) and a €1 or €2 piece with the current (post-enlargement) map, drop me a note. You don't mind traces of circulation here, right? Christian
