I've been reading different posts on here, and I was just wondering who all on here is a collector and/or dealer? Might make some good discussion. So, what are ya? :D Dealer, collector, or both?

I am a collector 100%, but i have bought a couple or few of an item to sell for a profit (in the hopes of anyway)

Simply a collector, never SOLD a coin.

Strictly a collector. I have sold one coin lot on Ebay but I doubt I ever will again. I'd prefer to give coins away through contests in here rather than sell them.

I voted both, because I buy for my collection, and I buy to make a profit on ebay.

    I'm basically a collector.

Yes, I do sell and you know that first hand Phoenix.

Most of what I sell though is duplicates or multiples. Really hard for me to part with a coin or piece of currency that I have only one of. If it's a better date it will only be sold if I'm starving.

I will, eventually, sell my collection. Not leaving it to anyone and would rather have bona fide collectors have the pieces I've attained over the years. Then you'll see a flood of 2 Cent Pieces on the market.

I'm a collector. I don't have the skill to be a dealer since I focus on a very small subset of the coin world.

I'm a collector. I will admit I do buy for profit also. All the profits are used to buy more coins...

I just collect...though I collect in a way that I try to get what I can for as little money as possible. I am a cheap ******* and will always contact a seller to try and haggle and get a little off...even a dollar off is a dollar saved. This way...if...god forbid... I ever have to sell any of my coins I can maybe make a profit.

Selling coins does not make you a dealer. Lots of people sell lots of coins and that does not make them a dealer either.

To be a dealer, you make your living by selling coins. Otherwise you are just a collector who also happens to sell coins.

that seems like more of a subjective opinion of what a dealer is...I dont think one needs to make a living to be called a dealer.

    deal·er n.
    1. One that is engaged in buying and selling
    2. a person who buys and sells articles without altering their condition; trader or merchant.
I think a dealer is simply a person who buys and sells...regardless of whether they make a living doing it or just makes extra cash.

Mostly a collector. I have yet to find a good way to sell without having to pay someone a cut.

Ask a coin dealer then, one who owns a shop and does make his living buying and selling, and see what they tell ya. Ever hear the term vest pocket dealer ? That is how dealers describe guys who sell just to make extra cash.

I would say both. I am a collector who somehow got managed to obtain a job dealing in coins.

    Collector.
Although when I get some extras I dont need, or want some cash, then I'll sell - but thats not too often, and usually its not too much $ either.

They are dealers all the same. Making a full time living isnt a condition that needs to be met to be a dealer in anything. What people who do it full time think doesnt change this. So called 'vest pocket dealer' ...still a dealer...

If a guy buys ans sells pot when he is off work...I dont think anyone would debate whether he is a dealer or not :)

The only coin shop dealer I know does it 3 days out of the week, he is a landlord, that makes him steady money...he is still a dealer I would think.

Yep, he's right. I have not heard that one in a long time !!!

Does my lil 1-2K a month Ebay store count? I'm a vest pocket dealer.
