I disagree with PCGS' grade.

Usually I grade like they do and we are spot on or close. I had this one pegged at AU50. What say you?

It was net graded based on the hit at the top of the "A" in "Half" and the general hits/marks on the obverse and reverse (would be my guess).

Hmm. When you consider the size of the coin, then think about the size of those "hits," I doubt it, but maybe. A circulated coin is graded by wear, not marks... or at least, it should be. But if you're right, then that could be a reason for such a low grade.

Plus they're just flat out tight right now

Yep, but we were far apart on this one. XF40 to AU50? There's a world of space between those grades.

I don't know. My gut feeling when I look at that is XF at best. But I know nothing about the coin.

The bottom line is that is you are selling the slab then you have to live with what you get or, alternatively, resubmit and hope. If you are selling the coin then you have to hope that you can find someone who agrees with it.

Either way, you have little choice but to live with it.

Not worth resubmitting. Not worth submitting in the first place if it is truly a XF40. Suppose I'll either shoot for a gold CAC or just put an AU price tag on it and sit on it till it sells.

They’re super tough on half dimes the last year or 2. Dimes too. I’m surprised it wasn’t xf 45 tho. I’ve had a lot I had at 50 come back at 45 55 at 50 and 62/3 at 58. With zero sign of wear. Pretty much every half dime I’ve sent there was an automatic green cac too and a few I think should have gone gold but they’re even stingier with gold beans than pcgs is with grades

Totally true. To get a gold bean from CAC you have to have a coin at least 2 grades too low. Minimum.

Wonder if I can send a coin to CAC with the instructions: "Gold CAC or nothing."

Honestly, though, it wouldn't even be worth the shipping and submission fees. Better to just ask AU50 money for it and let it be.

Only one I ever got was on a 58 that just made me laugh when I saw the grade from PCGS.

If a GTG I would have probably went 45.

I’d call it a high end 45 low end 50

The disappointment is understandable, but so is the net grading which, by the way, I believe is for poor strike, and not for the mark at the "A".

I agree it is an AU coin, but this was my first thought as well
