Hi everybody, when going through boxes of many coins, I’m looking for a desk loupe/lamp that anyone recommends. Amazon has some decent money but seeing if anybody has experience with good ones. Thank you!
Have you considered a USB Microscope like a Dino Lite? I have 2 of them with stands and a Bausch and Lomb 10x loupe.
I would really like one of those but didn't know if it would work as when when I'm searching in bulk and just in front of TV and such. Didn't know if those were only for use at a desk/computer.
I have 2 on my desk, the top one for quick peek and the bottom for more intense peek. you can find these at a place like Wizard coin supply, eBay etc.
A loupe is much faster and more accurate. With a 7X-10X loupe , you can assess them as pass or keep for closer exam, as fast as you can pick one up or put it down. then look at the keepers slowly and with a 10-12X loupe ( you will still discard most of the rest) but maybe a few worth keeping. I like the Belomo ( on Amazon). precision optics, some have a neckstrap which I like, and you can use it at a how where any electronics might not.
You could use a Dino Lite for bulk. It would be slower going for sure, but it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. My desktop monitor is actually a 24" flat screen TV and I get a good look at coins when I'm searching for over dates, etc. For quick viewing, I recommend a nice loupe.
Very cool. These are all really great options. Trying to upgrade to better equipment after doing this for a while! Thank you all for your suggestions.
Once I reached fifty my perfect eyesight deteriorated rapidly. I have all manner of loops, but years ago my wife got me this set by Mobius. The handle has two bright LED lamps. You can clip on a 2.5X, a 5X or a 16X magnifier. With all the high grade magnifiers I have, this is what I come back to over and over. I believe she bought the set on Amazon.
