The title of your thread should read "1970 s large date".

No. The 9 has to curl all the way around. The point of the 9 is sharp, not blunt and LIBERTY should be weakly struck. Your LIBERTY is well struck and the 9 points down to the foot of the 7.

I wish you luck in your search. There have been many, many people posting 1970 S mint mark cents on this forum looking for the small "S". I'm not sure if any were of the small "S". The coin diagnostics for the small "S" are quite distinctive and the pictures show it well.

Please keep us informed if you do find one.

The second one is different - it's a damaged large date.

Do we know what the possible survival rate for the 70-S (non proof) small date is? I'd also like to know what the numbers are for the 1960 Philly small date and the 1982 Philly small date copper and sd zinc.

Good question! I have never seen anything in print that states more than, The total mintage of 690,560,004 70-S cents were "mostly large dates.

So if the small "S" was 10%, that's still a lot of coins. Even 1%.

I think it's less than that. Because at 1%, 7 million wouldn't be rare.

The information I received was that there were only 2 Business dies used, and 1 proof die. ( for what it is worth, as they have variable survival rates) But it is an indication.
