New York medal.

Any thoughts on this? Wondering who made these and how they were handed out.

I really like tokens like this, they are a great opportunity to learn some history.
I had never heard of any Pre-Civil War prohibition.

That is pretty darn cool... considering it was only a 1-Year Prohibition in New York State! I don't find the Token on tokencatalog.com

Usually if it isn't too rare, they are on there. You may have a pretty scarce token, there!!! I sure like it!!!

It's not that rare, I have one as well.

The first real prohibition movements in this country started in the 1830s.A really good book on the subject is Last call: The rise and fall of Prohibition by Daniel Okrent. Fascinating subject. Used copies are available for around $7.

That's cool. Silver?

 

No. But I can't tell what it is. My first thought was aluminum, but it's too heavy.

 

An old friend of mine called it base metal. I don't even know what that is.

 

Looks like silver gilt or plated copper, seems some is missing and some worn.

 

No idea, but it is crisp and lustrous.

 

I don't know where my pieces at the moment, can the two of you get weights for your medals? That might tell us if the second one is silver or just silvered copper.
