Some of you may find this useful. I made a chart that compares three major TPG's and the IBNS grading as well. There are two charts, one comparing the numerical and one comparing alpha labels. You can click on the header to go to the individual TPG grading standard definitions. It makes for seeing the differences between them a little easier to navigate.

Nice notes @Endeavor. PMG and PCGS do good job, and most importantly, are consistent.

    I have a pair that is ;

    A) same denomination
    B) same grade
    C) same prefix letter
    D) same suffix letter
    E) same serial number
    F) same district

The only thing different is the series.

Having experienced the wrath...LOL of both grading companies i can tell you
That PMG is much more conservative in there grading style then PCGS especially
When crossing over from one to the other, for example if you had a 68 at PCGS
It would most likely come back only as a 67 at PMG now if you went the other
Way the opposite would be true, i have cross graded 100,s of notes between the
Two and have gotten these similar results.

Small world just looked at your notes and noticed the name Tom Flynn collection
Pedigree on the PCGS note, i remember the name from the heritage auction where
I bought this note several years ago, though it doesnt have the pedigree listed on
The note his details were listed in the description og it coming from his collection.
So i guess he has good taste :)

Thanks for the info Dave, however i would only consider PCGS or PMG as the
Top tier paper money graders, everybody else would full below them in to the
Second or third tier, also if you look at other TPG,s including ICG they skip many grading tiers which could cost several hundred or several thousand dollars depending on the note.

Thanks. I agree with you, which is why I used PMG and PCGS. They represent the best of US note grading.

ICG is a respectable world paper money grading company , and the IBNS is a standard that world currency collectors use a lot. A also made a cheat sheet for the IBNS Standards: http://banknoteden.com/Grading Chart One Page.pdf
but most people do not use the IBNS standards for US notes anymore. The TPG's have become too big for that.

While I am not a big fan of the TPG's, I am not dead set against them either. When I do (occasionally) consider purchasing a note that is graded, I like to know more than just the number.

I think you need TPG,S for a couple reasons, first you need someone to authenticate the note and make sure you have the real deal, second getting an experts opinion
On the grade there are many that can do this or get pretty close, but there are allot
Of collectors that are lost when it comes to grading and that can lead to allot of wasted money ! but i would never go anywhere else but PCGS or PMG, though
IGC maybe a reputable company there grading standards and grading assignments are very odd ball !
They have no 69,67,65 or 64 designation and thats just crazy to me and
    48 ? whats that...LOL
