I really don't know what to do with them. I was thinking on using them as a trade for other coins that interest me more. What's your opinion on the grade? toning? etc. I don't like to get rid of coins at all, but, also if I trade them I want to get the appropriate money, I have also thought that if they were high enough grade to get slabbed. I would do so. I don't have much into them. The first one is a 71 S proof, I despise the tick in the photo obverse 4 o'clock. It's much less noticeable in hand. I can read @dcarr from at least 6 inches away. It's a border cameo /deep cameo. This 73S I haven't made up my mind, I could use a little help, it weighs 24.3 g the surfaces aren't very proof like and fits the MS profile, but it has a cameo appearance. Should I try to get maximum value out of these coins by getting them graded? Or, sell them to a middle man?
Hard to say what to do with em. I don't think you will get all that much for them, raw or graded, unless you find someone who is willing to pay up for the toning. If you send them in to get graded you run the risk of losing money on them due to grading fees. You could always send em my way. They will look nice with the rest of my Ikes.
Personally, I like big-coins like Eisenhowers... I recommend you get them graded. I have several of them in poor condition and still the local-coin-vendor here won't give me anything but raw-value <$1.50> at best. I know he likes them as well, 'cause as soon as I left the store, he went and spoke to the coin-shop-owner about my huge stache of Ike's. I think of these coins as good trade-off coins if we ever get into a financial strain in our economy ! Good Luck !
That's part of the toning. I had to double check myself. This one had me wondering myself, what is it that you cant STAND? I haven't made up my mind on selling them, If I decide I will send you a PM.
Some of these toned Ikes with patterns like mine have sold for hundreds, The thing is that there doesn't seem to be many toned in resent sales. Not sure why? I don't know the history behind this type of coin?
I'm not sure I understand this part of your reply lol. I was just curious at the line cause of how it went from the Y to the 3.
I like 'em! I would hold onto them, and send them in as ride-alongs when submitting on a special or such. I think they'd sell well if slabbed with that toning, as long as they come back straight, which I see no reason they wouldn't.
I like ‘em, especially those striation lines on the 71-S. Based on the photos, the 71-S proof looks like a 67 and the 73-S looks like an MS65, but it’s hard for me to judge this one due to the toning. It could be higher. I like how the toning pattern outlines the eagle’s head and wing. Count me as one interested, if you ever decide to sell. Where did you pick these up?
My job has me traveling most of the metro area here in Colorado. When I am across town, I stop at b&m's that I usually don't get to. I like the coins, but a local dealer has a few holding for me that fit my collection much better.
