Some more newps . . . A seemingly common 1860-O Seated Dollar in crusty high grade circulated condition (NGC XF40). I stretched for this piece, not to sell as a type coin, but because collectors of the series trying to match all of the other circulated dollars in their set will struggle to find this coin in any condition other than bright white, mint state. A very rare cameo proof 1957 Jefferson Nickel (NGC PF67 CAMEO possibly to be sent for crossover service) . . . A beautiful 1832 CBQ (ANACS VF35). Truly a lightly struck XF, with lots of peripheral luster and nice surfaces beneath beautiful original toning.
I solved the problem. By accident. I put in bids on a couple of 1940 proofs at the same time in different auctions. (That Demon Bourbon...) The one shown in post #22078 ended first, then a few days later I won this impaired proof for $18.45. (Should I put VerdiCare on the reverse, or not?) Now I have a pretty darned nice proof to put in a nice plastic 2x2 without having to break out an Old Green Holder. Not what I planned, but still, not bad!
I'd like some comments on the photo quality as well. I think the lighting is off just a bit. Depending on where I view them on my monitor, I get different perspective, so please let me know your thoughts on the photos. Thanks. 1825 O-114 by jpcienkus posted Apr 1, 2018 at 11:13 PM 1825 O-114 reverse by jpcienkus posted Apr 1, 2018 at 11:13 PM
Thanks Bill. I agree with your comments about the pics posted. I just got a new USB Microscope and a light box. By the time I was done last night messing with the software settings, my eyes were so tired, I just wanted to post something. It looked a little out of focus last night, but today, the focus isn't too far off. I think I need to put some kind of filter over the LED lights in the light box and then start making more adjustments. The coin is fairly "white" with some album toning on the rims. I suspect it was dipped at some point in it's life. There's still luster on the coin, but it's not MS. It's AU58. I still need time to find the correct blue level, saturation, gamma and other settings until I can properly capture what the coin looks like in hand.
Wow, ya'll have amazing coins. I only have a couple of random foreign coins and a new red 1964D penny. I hope that I can add some cool ones to my starting collection one day.
Really?! I had no idea. I watched it for quite a while before pulling the trigger. I’m completely unfamiliar with DD varieties of this series. Is the give away the thickness of the date and LIBERTY?
It's been 8 months since I bought a coin for my core collection. And I paid way too much for it. Oh well, it fits well and I like it. https://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/collectors-showcase/other/circonly-half-dollars/2891
