Hi all, Flea Market purchase 3-31-2018 Picked up this small ancient today Roman Imperial Licinius 1 308 - 324 AD
Sounds like you got this lice at the flee market! Ba dim tsss. Jk. Seriously though, Nice grab! Cool details on the reverse. I have a couple of the Lice man. Here is my fav though... Licinius I 308-324 CE Follis. Heraclea. Obv: IMP C VAL LICIN LICINIVS P F AVG . Laureate head right. Rev: IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG / Δ / SMHT. Jupiter standing facing, head left, holding sceptre and Victoriy set on globe; to feet left, eagle standing left with wreath in beak.
@Roman Collector Nice coin, it made me do a double-take as I have one I was sure was exactly the same down to the "desert patina!" Anyway, it sent me hunting through my coin albums. I found mine is of Alexandria and not as nice but still close enough they're long lost cousins!
Nice snare @paddyman98 ! I always search Flea Markets also for Ancients. SOMETIMES I find one, but most times (and I no longer collect Moderns), I find overpriced moderns or modern fakes of ridiculously rare or scarce moderns. I gravitate more towards, what I understand, the Republic pronunciation of Roman coins, and I understand several of their diphthongs, vowels, and consonant pronunciations. It helps that I USED to butcher the Spanish Language in my business travels, and helps to understand Latin due to that. I have a LEEKEENEEOOS I to toss in (no lice here...) RI Licinius I 308-324 CE AE3 Jupiter w Eagle
This one is from Alexandria with a very hooked nose. Jupiter is also there on reverse, as strong and charming as ever.
