ANA World’s Fair of Money

Every year. Scams and coin people go hand in hand.

 

Do you think having the ANA show in Philadelphia will boost attendance? I read that the ANA show in Denver was poorly attended.

 

Philly is generally considered an awesome "coin town". It's not Chicago, but it's good. Denver was okay. Anaheim was horrible.

 

According to Laura Sperber, Denver was really bad. How come Anaheim was so bad?

Laura is her own unique breed of cat. I'd never use Laura as a barometer of any show. At Anaheim, it could have been a gun show, with live ammo, and not had any casualties .

 

I wish they would come back to Boston. It seems like the ANA does not care about the east coast.

 

I was at the Denver ANA show for 2 days out-of-the-week and it seemed busy with lots of folks... I got to see a $22,500 1893 Morgan Dollar and my Brother was impressed with the show. Hope they return.

 

If Denver was mediocre, then I would definitely like to go to one in Philly or Chicago. My son and I spent a couple of days and had a blast.

 

It was pretty highly attended. Busiest show my friend and I have seen in years. It was a very big turnout

 

Isn’t Philadelphia east coast?

 

The Denver ANA was well attended. Chicago is usually
the best location for the summer ANA show. Most West
coast shows are poorly attended. The Balt./Whitman and
the FUN show are also well attended.
Boston may have "tax" issues, not sure. There usually are
several reasons why the ANA does not choose some
obvious towns.

 

I don't think you will ever see the ANA in Boston again. I worked for the ANA at that show Managing the pages. I needed a table moved and couldn't touch it because that was a "union job" the unions have the convention centers in Boston so wrapped up that the ANA will never deal with them again.

 

Also the exhibition hall used at Boston got crummy reviews, being basically split in half. The BEST part of Boston was the fantastic work the Fitts' and the crew did.

 

It is, and even more, it's an Amtrak town. Folks from Richmond to Boston to Pittsburgh can save money (figure in no land transportation costs from Philly airport) and even time taking Amtrak. No TSA. No "get to the airport two hours ahead". No surly cabin crew. Better grub. No "emotional support peafowl" in your row. Yes, if you're coming from Pittsburgh, there's only one departure per day, we're working on changing that.

And when you get to 30th St. Station, you don't even need a SEPTA ticket to the venue - your Amtrak stub is one.

 

I think one problem with the Anaheim show it that it was sandwiched between two Long Beach shows. There are 3 Long Beach shows per year, so that pretty well takes care of the LA area with regard to big coin shows.

Laura Sperber mentioned in her hot topics that the Denver show was poorly attended. Maybe she has a spat with someone from the ANA.

 

For Laura, it’s ALL hyper-high-end material and clientele all the time. If it’s not at least five-figure, it’s below her.

 

I'll have to get on their website for more details but maybe everyone who has attended past shows can enlighten me as to what to expect when I get there. I'm 40 minutes out from Philly and would love to attend. I'm not an ANA member so is there a cost to get in?
