From posts on a couple other forums this morning it appears that a sixth example of the 1988 transitional variety has been discovered in North Carolina.

Interesting! Do they mention if it's the same die as one of the other two known dies?

Well I guess that no others from Denver have surfaced. I haven't heard anyway.:smile

This find should create more interest and get more people looking!

    Wrong metal 1940 cent

I have a 1940 cent which has been analyzed spectroscopically -
    WEIGHT:
    C K - 11.38%
    O K - 3.7%
    Cu - 65.78%
    Zn - 13.42%
    Sn - 5.75%

The first 2 should be disregarded - these are constant features of the Scanner - leaving a brassy-coloured alloy with a high zinc content. I have print-outs of the full results.

It has been slabbed by PCGS - 'Mint Error - Improper Metal Mixture. XF40.'

Unable to transfer images on to this page.
These can be emailed - frmnmich@aol.com.
To be auctioned in eBay early next year, unless previously sold.

I think so. This thread is about the 1988 transitional varieties. Both the Philadephia AND Denver versions.

Sorry - I thought the tread was about Lincoln cents in general.
I didn't realize it was so specific.
