Link 1909-S VDB... The "S" looks off on that coin -- but it's "guaranteed" genuine... Thoughts? Education for me? Thanks!
Looks good to me, obverse die #2. I would like to see the diagnostic " dot" in the upper loop of the S though, maybe request a better picture. Shape, position and tilt all say die #2. All genuine 1909SVDB's have a die chip in the upper loop , and on the die#2, it looks more like a period.
Before you spend another $50 on Lincolns....if your a serious collector, spend it on 2 books, the standard guide to Lincoln Cents by David Lange, and The authoritave referance to Lincolns Cents by Wexler. Both can be had for about $50, less than the cost of a BU red vdb edit: sorry, underestimated the price of books
Jack, This sounds horrible, but where can I get wexlers book for $50? The best price I have found is $99 ( although someone did say they saw it for $66) Thanks, David
I had to watch Ebay for a long time. You can set it up so that anytime " Wexler" is in an item title, it will email you. I think I paid about $40 for mine used, and got the Lange book years ago when it first came out as a Christmas present, but I know Collectons has it in stock for $29 plus shipping.
I found a copy of Wexler on abebooks for $66.67 http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=The+authoritative+reference+to+Lincolns+Cents&x=45&y=15 Cheapest on amazon is $99 Believe it or not Heritage sold one at auction April 9th of this year for $21
