I noticed two 1896 IHCs with what might be a common error. Could the IHC experts please help me with this one? Thanks.
Looks to be a grease-filled die but I'm not super familiar with the series so I will defer to others more knowledgeable than myself
Thanks, I'm just learning about all the possibilities. The seller of this coin notes the "weak 9" in his title, but the other seller does not. He is entertaining offers so I thought I might see if he would take 75% of his $28.42 asking price. The other is about the same condition but with a somewhat pronounced scar down the middle of the face, and asking similar money.
While I am thinking about it, would the IHC pros take a minute or two to tell me about the diamonds I see being referred to often in IHC auctions?
Maybe. Although the 1886 is scarcer than the 1896, in this condition the added value would be insignificant.
The diamonds they are referring to are in the ribbon emanating from the headdress. There are four of them. In your example I see two distinct ones.
I am with the others on an altered date,as I wouldn't think a grease issue would be so isolated to 1 digit. What makes it a shame the coin has plenty of details.
I should have said there are three distinct diamonds in your example. The bottom, fourth, diamond is pretty much worn away.
Snow does have an cent on his site for sale that is described as a struck through. What makes it simular to the op coin posted. The same digit on the date is shallow struck.
LA. Don't you think if you have that weird feeling about a coin. That isn't free. Looks like it's got serious question MARKS about it. Is a good investment. Coin does look good. But obviously flawed in its most important way. If you got to have it. Bid what it's true worth to you. You'll sleep better
You know Cheech it isn't a bad looking coin...nice color plenty of meat on the bone..the right price I buy it....but remember there's a lot more to be had ,ya just need to search them out.
I'm looking at dozens of these, but am trying to keep cost per coin on the new set I've started to $30.01 or less. The one in my original post, and the other one with the faint 9 are eliminated.
