PREPSPRING 15% off, maximum discount $50 (meaning your sweet spot for price before shipping is $333.33), must pay by 8PM PST today (March 27) (better than the last coupon's 7PM), still no good in Coins and Paper Money, Gift Cards, or Real Estate. (There goes my chance to save $50 on a house.)
I saw that coupon this morning. I was bummed I couldn't use it on a coin that I had an offer accepted on. I could have saved $48.00 on it had I been able to use it. I also tried to message the seller to relist it in a different category in hopes of being able to use it. But he would not agree to doing that. Oh well. I wish eBay would open up that category, maybe limit the bullion side like they do with the no eBay Bucks or something.
Ebay does frown on using wrong categories (even though they don't do much about it and do have bigger issues that would benefit from solving). And I believe they may even penalize the seller or buyer if the system catches some mention of changing categories. So one has to ask discreetly. Still some sellers are such sticklers, they would never change the category (I ran into one of these in this scenario a few years back....haven't bought from the seller since...).

Ya know, I could see eBay cracking down on, say, an eBay Store listing Beanie Babies (which go into a 9% FVF category) in Computers: Tablets (4% FVF). But if they're getting their cut -- particularly off non-store sellers, who pay that flat 10% across the board -- why should they crack down on something that's bringing them more revenue? It's not like a coin seller is trying to hijack attention from the laser-focused aficionados of Everything Else: Every Other Thing...
Yeah, it was simply a change from Coins/Paper Money to Collectibles. There would be no change in the FVF, but it would have made the coupon code eligible.
I would personally not recommend using collectibles if the seller has an ebay store. The Coins & Paper Money category has 6.15% fees while collectibles charges 9.15% (both are 10% without a store). Listing in collectibles might have cost the seller an extra 3% (and not made them want to switch there, but there are other possibilities to switch the listing to). My new favorite category to use is stamps. It's the closest one to coins and it has the same 6.15% fee. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/store-fees?id=4122
As I posted in another thread, here's a listing in Mixed Jewelry Lots for BU 1/10 oz AGEs, $135.15 after coupon, less than 50 cents above spot: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-gem-BU-5-1-10-ozt-GOLD-American-Eagle/372259815213 Hurry, only two left -- now.
