    Hello All,

There have been a lot of threads recently with people asking if their coin is doubled or not and 9 times out of 10 it turns out to be MD. I found this coin today in a box I was searching and decided that I would share it with you all so that you could see an actual example of a doubled die. It isn't the "most exciting" doubled die out there but it IS a true doubled die.

Notice how the doubling "adds" to the design. It doesn't take away from it. None of the motto in this case is any smaller for the doubling. All the doubling takes place to the left of the letters in the motto.

Also notice how there isn't any "shelf" or "flat shelf-like" area in the doubling. It is its own independent design element...for lack of a better term.

Hopefully this helps you all. If I made things more confusing I apologize! Perhaps other more knowledgeable people will chime in.

    Thanks for looking!

Great find! They are hard to find, but sure are rewarding when you do find one.

Pictures are the hard part, i actually just took apart an old telescope and I am trying to build a large size microscope with phone attachment and see how that goes.

    Finally one I can see!!

I also use Gimp for some editing, but use PhotoScape for the cropping and combining.

When you get it set up show us the results. I’ve been looking at macro lens clips for my phone. The main issue I have though, is lighting. Eventually I will find a setup that I like.

Have you tried Jansjo lights? They are very inexpensive and can be picked up at most Ikea stores.

I haven’t. Perhaps a trip to ikea for lights and plate of meatballs is in my future :)

I've never tried PhotoScape, just Gimp and Inkscape. I'll have to check it out

If lighting is the issue try using a diffuser for a softer light. To test it crumble a piece of aluminum foil and spread it out again then wrap it around cardboard, it makes for a good reflector but not too soft to lose the edges.

Is it a -003, or some other one?

Funny...I have never heard of inkScape. I will have to check that one out. I mainly use Gimp for the auto white balance check feature it has. It helps when I don't want to mess with doing a manual white balance adjustment on my camera.

I'm thinking of doing an ubuntu desktop in addition to my server. Is gimp really good? My "go to" has been a Windows XP box and Photoshop 7.0.

It is free to download and use. I downloaded it because I was too cheap to buy Photoshop.

While I have never used Photoshop, I do know it is preferred by many because of it's features and ease of use.
