I've been on a March Madness—Judaean coin—buying frenzy... ...for a couple of weeks now. I've always been partial to the coins of the period that Valerius Gratus governed Judaea—under Emperor Tiberius. My aim is to collect as many of the various Judaean coins, produced during the earthly lifetime of Jesus, as I can. I'm using Mr. Hendin's book as a shopping catalog* * Of course, Mr. Hendin is my mentor and I mean no disrespect referring to his excellent book as a shopping catalog. Here are a few recently acquired coins (those with red captions) My post about "Filling the Holes" was a precursor to this post and I'll have many more to show you in the coming days. Then I'm going to add them to my larger Judaean coin poster which I display periodically. Anyway, thanks to all of you for the inspiration! Blessings—DR
Stunning as usual, DR. Gonna get me a Judaean coin for the Eclectic Box one of these days. Maybe Bar Kokhba or somethin', if I can find something that both appeals to me aesthetically and that I can afford. (These two lines don't always intersect on the graph, if you know what I mean- my tastes all too often far outrun my budget.) This sort of stuff is a pool I haven't really dipped a toe into yet (aside from the occasional cheapo widow's mites) and I still find it a bit bewildering.
I did some browsing. Looks like there will be no Bar Kochba for me, in the foreseeable future. I knew the silvers were pretty well out of my reach, but thought the bronzes might be a bit more approachable. Don't think my taste and budget will intersect there anytime soon.
