What year is it? There is a lot of funky stuff that goes on with Zincolns that doesn't go on with other cents.
Thinking this might be Mechanical Hub doubling with the spread on columns from top too bottom ? From what I've read and thinking I understand ! Lol
Could very well be mechanical doubling since it doesn't look particularly "rounded", but don't trust me, I'm sure others will chime in soon.
Maybe I got it wrong but I read Lol probably ( well sure I'm wrong on that) but sure someone shared a thread on something of that nature on a previous post! Please try to read between the lines here guys! There was something about the position of the lose hub causing doubling to be on one part of coin but not another ! Thus causing it to be doubled or making several strikes before caught or finally settling in on the coin !
There is no such thing as "mechanical hub doubling". A working hub is used to make the working dies, and the working dies are used to strike the coins. If the working die becomes loose from continued vibration, it causes mechanical doubling on the coin. Mechanical doubling is also known as machine doubling or strike doubling or ejection doubling. Lol Chris I'll study more! BUT LOL I read somewhere about a working hub being loose while sticking the working die and this action has another name I believe ! Im having trouble finding the post by one of you more experienced people !
You probably read that true hub doubling is caused while in the process of creating a working die. The second strike is not lined up perfectly with the first strike, therein, causing the doubling. So it's my understanding that a master die is made in Philadelphia and then from that is produced a working hub which is then sent shipped to Denver and San Francisco for them to strike a working die for their mint which the mint...The mark was hand punched by that mint prior to 89 if I remember rite !
