After months I think the proof-like Sun is finally Done! Time to put her away :watching::cool::D

Kinda wish I would have started on the Sun side and not flipped her though. Maybe I'll risk doing a 1 sided dip??

(Neat to look at the light progression of the first 3 photos in order which was totally unintentional)

Picked these two up last night, sellers pics. Mintage of 6 each. On the left is the Antiqued Plated, on the right is the Polished Color Toned. Only need one more to complete my Silver Merlin Set. I'll post pics when I get them, then off to ANACS.

Something not in my experience. What the heck is a "Dan Carr token", and why are they such an apparently contentious issue here?

Ah, I see! Thanks, jpcienkus. So, these are coins that are produced by more-or-less standard minting processes, but aren't currency. Yet they are apparently collected, treated and graded in the same way as actual currency coins. Yeah, I can see where that might be a bone of contention for numismatists of a more purist nature.

The "bone of contention" for the haters is primairly with is fantasy date overstrike series. He uses the same US designs (which is in public domain and owned by any American) but puts a never used "fantasy" date on them and uses actual authentic coins of the type as the planchets which put them in the class of hobo nickels and carved / altered coins rather than coin copies but the haters don't want to accept the facts and have their own definitions / beliefs so they scream to the hills that they are copies without being marked as a copy when they are altered coins with fantasy dates, not copies of existing coins. That's the gist of it.

Or, to put it another way, the Hobby Protection Act states that fantasy coins must be marked with the word "COPY", and some expert legal interpretations of that Act indicate that Carr's work should also be so marked. Cascade and I don't agree with this, but the question is open enough to fuel ongoing hot debate. This thread is intended as a place to post images of Carr's work without triggering such debate, and I hope we haven't pulled the trigger here.

Anybody bought the Double Eagle? Looks good but I'm going to pass on this one, the year is young.

I like the brass a lot better than the silver.
