Got this in the mail today. It's really nice in hand. The special thing about this is in the left field, LXXII. These appear on FH from both Siscia and Aquileia. They seem a bit hard to find from Siscia. The LXXII most likely ment '72 to a pound.' Constantius Gallus DN CONSTANTIVS IVN NOB C bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right, A behind; FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO soldier spearing falling horseman,bare-headed, reaching LXXII in left field, star delta SIS crescent in ex RIC Siscia 335
I wonder if anyone has ever collected 72 to display a roman pound of these? Haha... sounds like a long term collecting project! Nice coin, I like Gallus' hair texture and the way it changes. It almost looks like there was a diadem there and they "haired" over it! Plus I like that the horseman is getting stabbed in the neck.
Yours has a much more traditional Siscian style than mine. Nice find. My current count is also 3 with the other two being form Aquileia.
Very nice! A lot nicer than the FEL TEMP of this emperor I got in a bulk lot: Constantius Gallus, AD 351-354 Roman billon maiorina, 3.49 g, 22.4 mm, 11 h Antioch, AD 353-353 Obv: D N CONSTANTI-VS NOB CAES, bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust, right Rev: FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, soldier spearing horseman falling forward onto neck of horse; ANAI in exergue Refs: RIC viii, p. 523, 141; RCV 18995; Cohen 17; LRBC II --; Voetter --.
That is a nice looing coin @randygeki ! I have a Constantius Gallus from Siscia: RI Constantius Gallus Caesar 351-354 AE21 FEL TEMP REPARATIO soldier-spearing-fallen-horseman RIC 348 Siscia
this is the attribute from a very trusted seller: Constantius Gallus, Caesar 351-354. AE21. FEL TEMP REPARATIO "soldier-spearing-fallen-horseman type" type. RIC 348 Siscia. Full flan Here is his original pic... it is probably a much better photo than mine: And thank you Martin for your help!
Thanks all, and nice coins. That on is very nice! Doug, that 2nd coin you posted has so many neat things going on. I have 1 one of Constantius II my other Gallus.
