No. I was a you tuber and through there I kept hearing about heritage auctions. I looked them up and found out they had a branch in my area. So I contacted the lady who is their expert and she referred me here. She actually gave me a guys name who specializes in error coins and this site. So I contacted him first and then he mentioned cointalk as well. So I figured if 2 experts recommend it I gotta check it out. Here I am.
I'm just wondering about the "5" because I have seen it in different places on different dimes. That is the only reason for the inquiry. I know its not an actual 5. It just resembles the 5 so it's referred to as that. The main reason that makes me ask is that it's on different dimes in diff. Places.
Lol..no they were not experienced collectors. I just asked if.they could see anything without saying what I was talking about
I see what you're saying. Now hear me out. I would agree with you 1000% if it was one coin. I personally have seen with my own eyes this "5" on 2 other coins and they were in different places on different dimes. Both of them I admit were online and one was on you tube. For the hell of it I looked through my gramps coins and saw this. I really don't think it's a coincidence. I also don't see it being pmd. Damage that happens to resemble a 5 on diff. Coins in diff Places? I only say this to explain to everyone the reasoning behind my questions. I'm not trying to say ur wrong and I'm right and my dime is worth a million bux. Simply asking. Could that have happened at the mint? I don' know for sure. That' why I'm asking. I see alot of things that I wouldn' think could happen but did.
I do not see a five. It is not a documented variety or error listed on any of the major websites or books. Therefore, it is not something that has any worth (monetarily or otherwise). If you like it - keep it, but you will not find anyone else who is interested in it.
Some people in this forum simply enjoy coming off as condescending, arrogant, and intolerant of people who don't know everything. It is not helpful coming off as always attacking or insulting people, or rubbing people's faces in it when they innocently ask questions because they don't yet know which resources are good. Don't take it personally.
I understand what you’re saying and see it on CT but most (not all) of the time it comes down to an inexperienced collector questioning the accuracy of the responses. The vast majority of questions from new collectors seem to be asking if their worn and/or damaged coin is a valuable variety or error (many times with a lousy pic). After a few quick responses saying their coin is just damaged and there is no possible way it could have happened at the mint, the newbie comes back with; “but did you see this” or “look at this picture again”. Those seem to be the ones that catch the flak. Yes, there are a few that jump right in with condescending comments, but many times they are followed with someone welcoming the newbie to CT. Low patience levels and an anonymous forum can have that effect
Quick lesson - If it is an anomaly that is coming from the mint, and it is duplicated in multiple coins, you can almost bank on the fact that it will be in the exact same place on each and every coin. This would include die chips, die breaks, doubling, repunched MM or dates, polishing lines, struck-throughs (not including struck through grease, as that is a fluid), and many other weird things that may be found on coins. There are going to be some exceptions to that, but a basic beginner, keep that in mind. Now look at your coin, and look at the other coin you posted as an example. We'll assume that the 2nd coin shows either a struck-through, or as @Conder101 said, die chips. Are they identical? Are they in the exact same spot? Now run with your new found knowledge, and go find something! And turn off youtube!!!!!!
