Tat2 Stop! Count to ten and laugh. These guys are having fun with you...They have a vast knowledge of coins and they ARE giving you information but not just straight up...it is fun and you should just enjoy it as I do...
That is not true, the statements are "straight up". The OP just doesn't want to believe it. Hopefully he reads some of the material posted and learns the minting process.. that way he is not fooled by these supposed ebay sales. Upon second thought he actually might have learned something, because he can't produce a single coin, Don't worry @Tat2 most folks that start the coin roll hunt, are looking for the Holy Grail, only find coins that are worth face value. Good luck in your hunt, and hope you educate yourself. Posting coins like this and thinking that you know more than the seasoned numismatists? Is only akin for more threads just like this one.
Can u please explain to me what exactly u mean by key date ? And otherwise desirable coins? I think I get what ur saying but I don' want to assume anything .
Those are extremely "beginner" terms. Your unfamiliarity with them reveals things you might not want to reveal. Generally speaking, a "key date" is one that is among the two or three rarest dates of a coin series. When the term is used with the article "the", it refers to the single rarest date of a series.
I don't nor have I ever claimed to know more than anyone here. As a matter of fact I have said numerous times that I am trying to learn as much as possible and that I appreciate any info and/or help that any of u provide.
Ok thank you sir. How would I know that without asking? As I keep saying- I'm here to learn. And I have learned alot so far. Sad to say there are a lot of rude people here. They must have been born with a coin collecting gene. they never had to ask questions or learn about this. They knew everything the second they held their first coin. Lol..im not including u in that category so please don't take it that way. I appreciate the info and advice sir. I thank u again
Key dates are also coins whose value SEEMS inordinately high compared to others in a series. Keep in mind, for a series that remains active, the "key" can change, quite a lot. Among the series of modern commemorative half dollars, we REGULARLY establish new "key" coins. Why? Because the recent ones are selling like crap. When it was new, the White House commemorative dollar in 1992 (?) was the key, and its value went crazy. It no longer is anything CLOSE to the key and its value CRASHED.
I'm Not ssre if u know so I'll say again I first was going through you tube. Eventually I was referred here. With that being said, I was told by numerous people here not to believe what I see on you tube. With that advice in mind, am I just supposed to automatically believ everything I'm told here? U see what I mean? Forgive me for being a little apprehensive and questioning some of the things I'm being told. Again, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can my man.
tat#2 > take a look a this article - the second photo down (right margin) shows a clipped planchet error - it's not a whole coin, it's an error, but it is not terribly valuable either - eBay sells them for not a lot of money ( there is nothing in the other illustrations that looks like your dime) > hope this helps >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mint-made_errors
Those who publish YouTube videos are "paid" by generating clicks. We are not paid to do this AT ALL!!! Your call. Figure out how incentives like YouTube's might cause less than honest "information".
Again I appreciate all the info. All I'm saying is I'm trying to not make the same mistakes. That is why i keep asking questions. If I don' know something I'm not afraid to admit it and ask more about it.
Bud sure beats my two fur-bearing leeches all to heck. At least I don't need to take mine outside to do their business. They just do it where they feel like it - mostly the intended boxes, ... mostly.
To touch on my post about my gramps pennys- there were a couple nickels dimes and quarters in there as well. That dime was there. I was just curious about it-thats all. When I asked about it, I got a reply asking how much common sense I had. I took that as an insult and it pissed me off. That is the whole reason I brought up the fact that coins in worse shape have sold for decent money. Then the issue just got out of control and a bunch of people joined in talking about the dime. Saying I don't want to hear the truth or do more research before posting pics etc... so again I say- I was only making a point to that person that coins like that have sold for decent money..that's all people. I'm not saying mine is one if those. Never have. Now can we drop the damn dime now??? Lol..I am..I made my point ..that's all.
The main difference between youtube and here is: On youtube, if you look at the comments, everybody says, "great find" "great information"... regardless of it's accuracy. On this forum, there are generally enough experienced collectors and dealers that misinformation is usually quickly corrected. Everybody, and I mean everybody... even the most seasoned numismatic.. has misconceptions or they are misinformed from time to time.
I can see where you are coming from, I started here a few years ago, What I found was a bunch of knowledgeable members, that are willing to teach. if you want to learn. Knowledge is the best defense. Hang around and be a part of CT. Glad to have you here,
That is exactly why I'm asking questions. The "5" dime for example. Through my research I was told that Roosevelt dimes with the 5 are sought after and definitely one to look for. I also heard they were rare. So as I asked earlier- is anything I've heard about these true or have I been misinformed?
