Martha Washington or Jackie Kennedy will do just fine, thank you.

Sounds like they're talking one for each state.

Aside from the PC spin of the whole thing that I will withhold my feelings on.... I rather think this is something of an imaginative/creative step for the mint to consider. I been a little put off with the mountains of different strikes in recent years. But I believe I could get on board with this one. Only because it is genuinely creative..... It will give a whole new spin on flipping heads or tails!

When the ATB series is finished so am I with quarters as far as collecting them goes. I will still pick up some bags of P mint marked to search for errors though and then sell them to fund my updates on classic series. I'm also finished with updating any other modern series. The Mint made plenty from me over my collecting career. Time to pass off the ball to newer collectors.

It is interesting now that the Mint has cleared out all previous issues from their sales offerings that many that were offered are now starting to spike in price. Especially the "S" quarters. Mint/Proof sets went back to 2011 and maybe now that they have been pulled we might see some difference in prices of those?

Great a new series of quarters with 56 women on them, probably better than 45 of which people are going to at and say "who?". Most people can't even tell you who the presidents are on the obverse of our coins, they're not going to have a clue who most of these women are on the reverse. This is definitely a bill that needs to be shot down.

My opinion would be based on who's image was used. My list, in no particular order:
    Guinan
    Sandra Day O'Connor
    Lady Bird Johnson
    Rosa Parks
    Toni Morrison
    Ella Fitzgerald

Would it be birthplace or where they were famous?

What happens if 2 states claim the same woman?

So if people in general are ignorant about contributions of women from their own state (and others), what's wrong with a little educational opportunity?

I mean, I didn't recognize most of the national parks, either, and now I'm aware of some that I otherwise still might not have heard about.

I totally agree but me, I'm at quarter overload now. Maybe a set of bronze medals and returning the reverse of the quarter back to the eagle. Or try a series on the reverse of the one dollar bill with a some "REAL" engraving? Or use the half dollar with a bigger space to work with for a more detailed design not crowded into such a small space. Just thinking out loud.

Nobody buys base metal mint medals anymore... some have been in production for 50 years and sales are tiny.

The silver dollar sized Military medals packaged with the 1918 centennial of the Great War sold 8-15K at $100 for the pack of two. Who will commit to 56x $50 over a decade? Look at the tail off in the Prez dollar / 1st spouse series.

    The half doesn't circulate.

So the largest canvas we have that does circulate is the quarter. And I just can't imagine what it will look like if you try to put a recognizable portrait and a couple of images of the person's accomplishment(s).

It's bad enough on automobile license plates. If you can see the oil derrick on a Texas plate you're too blasted close.

@Burton Strauss III I agree, the half does not circulate, but this is because of the vending industry not willing to do the change over needed to accept this coin. They did not seem to have a problems with switching to accept dollar coins and install note readers. Has the Mint ever had a serious sit down with them and discuss this? If they did do this change over it would be a boon for the Mint in making more halves for circulation, adding profits to their bottom line. The medals I also agree on, very few people buy them. But if an attractive set were produced, say a set of ten each year at an attractive and reasonable price, this might spark interest in numismatics in a new way as the State quarters did and would be great for album makers, TPG's and the numismatic community as a whole. Just thinking in a positive way and being hopeful I guess. And using the one dollar bill might restart collecting in a different way. Guess I'm just tired of seeing the same ole same ole stuff. Plus I would like possible younger collectors to jump on the wagon and take off from where we oldsters leave off. I'll admit it's wishful thinking.

Coin week did a write-up in December 2016, "What Are Your 50 State Quarters Worth Now?"

    https://coinweek.com/recent-articles-video/coin-analyst-50-state-quarters-worth-now/

tl;dr - lots of interest at first, tailed off by the end of the series. It's still cheap to collect from face/circulation upto maybe $500 for highest grade proofs. None of the subsequent series have generated the same interest level.

Also, the kids who collected the 50SQ are now in their 20s and not interested in anything other than their iPhones.

I need the current one. Pictured rocks? They do look good in an album. (Reverse side out.) Most are MS.
The problem was over kill. It was good at first, and more isn't always better.
There won't be much interest in famous American women on coins.
But off the top of my head, (besides Martha W., Abigail A., Dolley M., Jackie O. etc.) Harriet Tubman, Amelia Earhart, Babe Didrikson, plenty in entertainment, Katherine Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Judy Garland, Lucille Ball, Martha Graham.
Cranking out 800 million Harriet Tubman's creates less interest than if these circulating coins were only produced in the 20-30 million area. We don't need 5 billion new quarters a year. There are plenty in circulation now.

What happened to politic correctness? You can be sure someone would be shouting discrimination if it were famous men. What's wrong with famous PEOPLE?

How about the 50 state flags, colorized? At least the TV hawkers might not be able to one up that? Or our 50 most valuable space or scientific achievements? That would be more palatable for me.

Colorized disks are gimmicky tokens in my opinion. They are not real coins.

What's wrong with going back to actual art, something along the lines of mercury, walking liberty etc... Vs 100 different quarters over 2 decades, and a handful of pennies and nickels. I didn't mind a couple of the Lincoln bicentennial pennies but these state quarters look very cheap / forced / childish. Whoever thought putting whole pictures on quarters shouldn't be designing coins. Put a "symbol" on it and leave it for 30 years.
