I have this very worn Louis XVI 1788 copper sol with a B countermark on the neck on the obverse. I have not been able to find anything about such a countermark. Official ? Unofficial ? Would welcome any information members might have.

The consequences of the lockdown/quarantine being no more social interactions with other human beings (no barbecues, no neighbors to invite or to be invited by, and so on...), we have spare time after work or during the weekend. I took some time to put together two posters showing my french coins box. As I think having already explained at some point, I have a minibring Abafil case with two trays for 20 coins that I use for displaying purposes. The idea is to show only a small selection, and only on request, as I don't like people yawning at marvels like my reasures. I put to myself two more restrictions : as it's 40 and only 40, one entry means one exit ! One has to think twice before buying something !!! I try (and you will see it's far from achieved) to put together a set of coins of approximatively the same sizes for the aesthetic visual effect. What I haven't done with the first virtual tray is to show the relative actual size of the coins because I had already shot/assembled the picture before. On the contrary, the pictures for the second virtual tray weren't shot yet, so I managed to keep the camera at the same distance to show the relative sizes of the coins. Long story short, this means I'll have to re-shoot all the pics for the first tray Anyway, here they are 1 - Philippe IV "Le Bel" (1285-1314) - Gros tournois a l'O rond - Ref : Ciani # 203 2 - Charles VI ( 1380-1422) - Blanc guénar - Ref : Ciani # 506 3 - Charles VII (1422-1461) - Ecu d'or - Ref : Ciani # 617 4 - Francois I° (1515-1547) - Teston du Dauphiné deuxieme type - Ref : Ciani # 1141v 5 - Henri II (1547-1559) - Teston 1555 M - Ref : Ciani # 1271v 6 - Henri III (1574-1589) - Demi franc 1587 O - Ref : Ciani # 1430 7 - Henri IV (1589-1610) - Demi Franc 1601 M - Ref : Ciani # 1540 8 - Louis XIII (1610-1643) - Quart d'ecu d'argent du 3° type 1643 A - Ref : Ciani # 1661v 9 - Louis XIV (1643-1715) - Demi ecu au buste juvenile 1648 A - Ref : Ciani # 1850 10 - Louis XV (1715-1774) - Cinquième d'ecu au bandeau 1759 L - Ref : Ciani # 2127 11 - Louis XVI (1774-1792) - Demi Ecu aux lauriers 1791 A - Ref : Ciani # 2189 12 - Constitution - 12 deniers 1791 A - Ref : Ciani # 2253 13 - Constitution - 30 sols 1792 I - Ref : Ciani # 2241 14 - Convention - Sol aux balances 1793 AA (refrappe) - Ref : Gadoury 2003 # 19 15 - Directoire - 5 centimes grand module - l'An 5 A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 115/1 16 - Napoleon 1° Empereur (1804-1815) - 40 francs or 1812 A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 541/9 17 - Louis XVIII (1814-1824) - 2 francs 1823 W - Le Franc 10 # 257/50 18 - Charles X (1824-1830) - 2 francs 1826 L - Le Franc 10 # 258/19 19 - Louis-Philippe I° (1830-1848) - 40 francs or 1833 A - Le Franc 10 # 546/5 20 - 2° republique (1848-1852) - 2 francs Ceres 1849 A - Le Franc 10 # 272/29 21 - Napoleon III Empereur (1852-1870) - 50 francs or 1857A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 547/4 22 - Napoleon III Empereur (1852-1870) - 10 centimes 1862A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 134/5 23 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 10 centimes Ceres 1872A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 135/8 24 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 1 franc Ceres 1888A - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 216/10 25 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 5 centimes Daniel-Dupuis 1901 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 119/11 26 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 1 franc semeuse 1901 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 217/6 27 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 25 centimes Patey 1904 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 169/1 28 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 2 francs semeuse 1910 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 266/12 (pédigree : ex collection personnelle Victor Gadoury) 29 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 2 francs chambre de commerce 1923 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 267/5 30 - 3° république (1870-1940) - 10 francs Turin 1932 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 360/5 31 - Etat français (1940-1944) - 2 francs Morlon 1941 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 268/14 32 - Etat français (1940-1944) - 2 francs francisque 1943 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 270/2 33 - Gouvernement provisoire (19441946) - 2 francs Philadelphie 1944 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 271/1 34 - Gouvernement provisoire (19441946) - 5 francs Lavrillier aluminium 1945c - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 339/5 35 - Gouvernement provisoire (19441946) - 20 centimes Lindauer 1946 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 155/5 36 - 4° république (1946-1958) - 100 francs Cochet 1954 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 450/2 37 - 5° république (1958 - 5 francs semeuse 1960 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 340/4 38 - 5° république (1958 - 10 francs Mathieu 1978 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 365/11-12 39 - 5° république (1958 - 20 francs Mont St Michel 1992 - Ref : Le Franc 10 # 403/2 40 - 5° république (1958 - 2 francs semeuse 2001- Ref : Le Franc 10 # 272/29 Q
