So I was pretty happy with the finds today at the Annapolis show!
Even more so this evening as I just realized in my haste I missed something huge. I been getting sinus headaches due to the barometer changes due to all these huge lows hitting the East coast.
So a quick look at an 1848 lead me to believe it was an RPD when in fact after digging in my reference books it is in fact a 1848/6 Overdate OVD-001.
Now the slab was in a dealers friends case....and I did forget my list of half dime needs.....my bad that turned good as if in deed I had my list I may have passed on this specimen.
The second OVD of today as i also picked a 1849/6! That's another story...

So many believe that the OVD-001 is actually a 1848 over a 47 it's not!
    This is an v-7a 1848/46 .
All pups are in place clashes, the small die gouge between stars 10 &11
Now Valentine did not list this as an overdate. ,it has been listed by others as ab 1848/7/6.
There's a small piece of medal protruding from the top of the second 8 @10k another pup.
However many believed it was the top of the 7 in 47 serif that does not line up to be the case.
As there's no other remnants of the 7.
This is in an PCGS slab xf 45 which makes this $75 purchase a $175. Find for this variety in this condition.
    Oh yeah the headache has gotten a lot better :) 1848-6 obv.h 10.jpg 1848 -6 rev.h 10.jpg 1848 -6 h 10 A.jpg

Yeah good day and a little luck.... I've done a lot worst but the Groat purchase going out the door was a classic .....:pompous: as to be perfectly honest I didn't know Jack or his brother give a...about English hammered coins... and somehow hit a home run....while trying to go home.

At the show Sunday I also picked up an 1849 half dime, it too was an overdate the 1849/6 or OVD-002. V-2 Breen 3052 all the pups again were in place to confirm the find.
It was in the LDS so it isn't as easy to see at first. The underlaying 6 at this point can not be seen outside of the 9.
Now the 1849 /6 there are 3 known over dates all 9/6 each with its own diagnostics. Which means there's 2 more 49's I need to hunt down....as well maybe some different die states.
As I keep filling slots there's a duel feeling one of satisfaction another emotion that sez I really don't want the hunt to ever end......there is going to be a time very soon that purchases are going to be less as the keys aren't only hard to find but carry heavy premium in better grades, but doable .

    I saw a PCGS MS65 1849/6 on eBay today. Listed around $3500.
