I can't see the luster for a 67 but NGC must have.

Could also be my poor photography. I don’t have my copy stand set up so it’s just a camera phone and the light in the living room.

Very nice Ike. I would have guessed 65. Nice pick up!

Beg to differ. It isn’t process of elimination. It is what a coin grades. From the pictures, which is the only evidence we have, the coin has pretty clean fields. As regards luster, that is impossible to ascertain from those pictures. It looks good, but I have not seen it in hand. It is a borderline 66/67 to me, so I graded it 66 based on experience. However, it isn’t a process of elimination in grading—in other words, it isn’t a 68, so it must be a 67. Hardly—it could be a 66 or 66+. Grading isn’t a “well, it isn’t such and such, so it must be...”. You have the process backwards.

I beg to differ as well. Grading really is this kind of elimination process. It was with THIS particular coin. It was EASY to grade- took 2 seconds for me. As far as a plus grade goes, I don’t think I’ve seen one for a silver business. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They’re just not in the habit of assigning them for these. I’d have to check the population reports. You were incomplete in your assessment (“it isn’t a 68, so it must be a 67). The complete assessment would be: it isn’t a 68, and it certainly isn’t a 66, so....... 67. This coin is a 67 for another reason too. It’s not a 66+. So, yes, grading is a process of elimination in a general sense. You are ALWAYS eliminating numbers until you arrive at a final number. Always.

Okay @Morgandude11 and @Ike Skywalker we know its a 67. We all have different methods of determining why we think something is the grade it is. Honestly, this argument seems needless. Thank you both for your guesses and input.

Nice coin, and good acquisition. Just trying to teach someone who obviously doesn’t know how the process of grading works. It IS NOT a process of elimination. It is a matter of following established rubrics, and not by the “it isn’t a goat, so it must be a cat” illogic.

Thanks for taking the hint about no more fighting. :banghead: Thank you and I’m happy I picked it up. I think it was a good choice too.

We agree. I could not see it in the image. NGC had it in hand and I'll bet they got it right.

Yeah, I probably won’t be getting any good photos until I’m back stateside. These will have to do for now. The luster is decent. I’d still guess 66, but $27 at 66 wouldn’t have bothered me either.
