I will probably hear the same ole same ole but... Am I just seeing things or machine doubling or what's going on here? 2017 quarter dollar. My microscope that I got a couple weeks back hasn't really shown something like machine doubling real good like this doubled look that is going on here... If the picture sucks then I can upload more. Let me know.

Looks to me to be a classic case of machine doubling.

You should search around a bit for a picture with a comparison between machine doubling and a doubled die. Can't find a thread with it at the moment, but I know it has been posted many times.

Oh, I'm sure it is. The initials do look like its not machine.

Although the tips of the writing fingers (like his middle one) do look like real doubled.

    Hi Rachel,
I see a nose on the forhead and two thumbs.Almost like 2009 Lincoln cent on the reverse sitting on the log reading a book, doubling on the thumb.

Yes, precisely like that Lincoln cent! I have one of those... wish I collected back then because that would have been fun.

    Rachel,
Did you find the 2009 roll hunting?
Have you looked into that coin any further?

That is why you shouldn't scowl - you will get wrinkles on your forehead that look like a nose. It is just how the die was engraved. Frederick Douglass was a great American, and became a good friend of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln would always introduce him as, "my friend Douglass".

Yes McCann, I found it roll hunting. I will dig it out and shoot a shot of it for ya here in the next few days.

The biggest part honestly of this 2011 that I was questioning would be the initials and his thumb. The thumb really did remind me of the 09.

    Rachel,
Take a close picture of the hand then crop it do the same with the initials. You can do this with your phone or a usb microscope? This may help better determine what it is.Also do you have another one to compare it to?I saw a picture online and his brow line does have a huge wrinkle in it with a vertical line in the center of his forehead this to me could be mistaken for a nose(That had me fooled on my first response)Oh Well it's all apart of the learning process. Not an easy hobby but an addictive one. Some of the people that have been helping you help me also and have alot of knowledge.
