1984 P Quarter Double Die?

    Surgeprotector Machine Doubling....gets me every time!

    Curious if you guys think this is a double die. I've never seen one before up close so not really sure. I "think" i see the double die on the "United States" and "e pluribus unum". Quarter is in rough shape so i can't really see it anywhere else. Appreciate the feedback! dd-1984quarter.jpg

    After further inspection i can now see it on "America" too as well as "Dollar"

    Yes! Machine doubling is quite common. It's also called mechanical doubling, strike doubling or ejection doubling. The die becomes loose and shakes from the vibration of the machine. A tell-tale sign is that the edges appear flat and shelf-like.

    Interesting...so it is more of a stepdown look than an actual raised letter/number twice. Boy, so much to learn!

    Yes.. Also, the correct Numismatic Terminology is Doubled Die and not double die.. Big difference!
